Another AR pistol question

So I know that the 300 BO is probably a better choice for a pistol, but how does 223/5.56 do from a pistol length upper? Not looking for a 500 yard gun, but would like something to carry on the farm that gives a bit more reach then a standard handgun but is not as bulky as a full size AR would be.

They do fine.
If I only had one it would be a 10" barrel.
The short barrels 7" work best in 556.
They are very loud need a LC to cut down on it.

How short you plan on going plays a large role in how effective the round is.
10-12" is pretty decent.
Below 10", it gets real weak, real fast.

10 would be as short as I would go. Want to have an arm brace on it and optics for work between 100 and 200 yds max

A 10.5” 5.56 with a brace of some sort, and a RDS is a quick handling, and relatively effective weapon.
I’m quite the fan.

I’d add a rail mounted light and sling to round out its effectiveness at a predator control weapon.
Also, look into charging handles that reduce gas blowback. You’ll generally be much closer to the upper receiver on a pistol/SBR. I run my carbine stocks pretty close to collapsed completely too though.

I prefer the 5.56 pistol over the 300BO.
My first 5.56 build was a 7” and it was rowdy. Swapped in a 10” and quickly relinquished the 7. Very happy medium between a pistol and SBR.
