Most people grew up on Zebco rod and reels. I have a couple in the barn that my granddaughters use.

Caught a lot of fish on ole 33s using spinner baits still use them some times. I think the slow retrieve helped catch fish.

I still have a couple of Zebco Cardinal 4s from the 70s, my favorite all time open face spinning reel...
I started with a 33, but moved to open face spinning reels pretty soon, by 16 or so I was using a Mitchell 300 but they wore out pretty soon as they had bushings instead of bearings, I still use my Cardinal 4s from time to time...
