I will try to keep this updated as more classes are added. The Basic Trappers Ed Course is taught by volunteer Instructors through the WRC Hunters Education Program. They consist of an online module that requires around 4 hours to complete and a 4 hour field day. The course includes a brief history of trapping, an introduction to the tools and methods used, NC Rules and Regulations, Best Management Practices and a demonstration of basic sets used for most NC Furbearers and Predators and a Skinning and Fur Handling Demo.

Basic Trapper Ed Courses:

Currently, there is one course scheduled for April 21, 2018 at the Durham County Wildlife Club on Hopson Road in Morrisville, NC. Click on the link below for details and to register. There is no charge to take the basic course and the completion certificate is recognized in all states.

Advanced Courses:

Advanced, Hands On Courses are offered by the NC Trappers Association. These are all day courses that offer the student a more in depth experience in the trapping the subject animal. There is a $75 charge for each course for NCTA members and a $100 charge for non NCTA members. The $100 charge includes a one year membership in the NCTA.

Currently, there are 3 Advanced Coyote Trapping Workshops scheduled and open for registration.

The Coyote Workshops are recognized by the NCWRC and Qualify for WDCA Recertification.

Here are links to the current courses offered:

Update on the basic class on May 19 at the Marion Fish Hatchery.....

This a basic class that consists of the on line module and a 4 hour field day (9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) There is a lot of information to be covered and while it does cover the basics, the 4 hour schedule does not allow the attendees to participate in hands on activities.

The instructors have agreed to add 2 hours as an option for students that would like a more hands on experience. Attendees who wish to stay for the optional 2 hour extension should bring a bag lunch.

I’m so glad you posted this. I just dismissed the long online exam and scored a 94. Finding out they were having a class close to me gave me the kick in the behind I needed! Been fascinated by trapping since I was a boy and now I’m getting my head in the game . FYI: 25 spots left for the Marion class
