Ten Pointer
Well I filled my final Iowa archery tag on a buck I call Doublewide. I can truly say trail cameras played a part in me killing this buck. Trail camera pictures since early July let me know which areas of the farm he used, and which parts he didn’t. This buck did not live on my farm, but on the neighbor to my south. He was a regular at mineral site all summer, and hit a small radish plot and multiple scrapes...but always at night. On November 2nd I saw him for the first time, tending the first hot doe of the year. He was where I suspected he lived, on the neighbors property to the south. But I had hope since he was now moving in daylight. On November 3rd and 4th I had the first daylight pictures of him in front of one of my stands. I hunted the stand on November 5th, and I saw him again, though he was out of range. He came out of a creekbottom connecting the neighbors property to my radish plot. The 6th and 7th I hunted the same stand, and although I saw over 30 bucks in those 2 days, I did not see Doublewide. On the 8th the wind was finally right to hunt my stand right in the creekbottom. I settled in well before daylight. By 8:00 am I had seen 8 bucks cruising by themselves, and had almost closed the deal on a booner 10 pt. Action stopped at 11:30 am, and I considered getting down for lunch, but decided against it. At 3:20 pm I looked to my left and Doublewide was walking towards me. I stopped him at 35 yards, and put a perfect shot on him. He only ran 35 yards and was done in seconds. I feel very happy and fortunate to wrap my tag around this buck to end my archery season. Scored him at 158 5/8” and is 4 1/2 years old.
