WB Spearfishing Tournament

I spent the weekend with some of my best friends competing in the Wrightsville Beach Spearfishing Tournament. Originally scheduled for last month it got pushed back a month due to the hurricanes and the weather actually worked out! We dove hard for 3 days to find 2 fish in inshore, bottom, and pelagic to weigh in. Friday was pretty terrible, it was all we could do to make it out 5 miles in 3'-4'+ seas and wind blowing 25kt from the NE. We dove in limited viz to fill our inshore fish with nice 4-6lb flounder and sheepshead. Saturday we beat our way out 50 miles in the leftover slop from the day before. The weather improved all day an we were able to put some solid fish and lobsters on the boat. Highlight was a 34lb Gag grouper, 18lb hogfish, and a 24lb African pompano. Sunday was absolute gorgeous, made another 50 mile run in smooth seas cruising at 32kt. It was a shorter day due to the weigh in being at 3 but well worth the trip. Found a honey hole of 8-10lb lobsters, a 32lb king, and a 22lb red grouper. It was an individual tournament but to save the details of who's who our boat took home Top scuba, second inshore, third inshore, first bottom fish, and second bottom fish, and first overall.
