Anyone else suffer with vertigo?

I have had it a great many years. Some time only a few days a year, others like this put a hurting on things.
Funny in this day and time for people that suffer from things like this people want to laugh or just point and try to get their phone working.

Some times it hits and you ride the walls, rail or halls like a nascar driver racing with two flats.
Then it hits you that you may yak all over if you try to move......

Anyways, this is number 3 or 4 for me this year, started last Thursday or friday and has not really let up. It is kicking my :donk:donk:donk. Having problems sleeping now and really run down...

Just wonder if anyone else has it and maybe tricks.... Been to every doc there is with no luck other than take this and take that but no real luck so I just fight it.

Have you tried scopalomine patches? They are the only thing that helped my mother's vertigo and sea sickness.

Not sure the type but yes, several patches, all the normal pills.
Really about the only thing they found that works is pain meds, muscle relaxer, and cold meds.
That helps, but puts you in bed, cant drive or do anything....

Guy I work with every day has it. It was way worse before he was finally diagnosed. None of knew what was happening. We are on ladders and lifts a LOT. Looking up, looking down, etc. It hit him with NO WARNING and boom, he was done. He tried to describe it to us and we were befuddled.

Now, all he can take is meds for the nausea that comes with it. He hasn't found anything to stop the "spins". Just watching him go through this about 4 times a year, I know I NEVER want that!!

I can't fathom something so bad that closing your eyes doesn't at least help. Something that you can't walk, drive, sit still, or lie down and feel better.

Prayers you somehow conquer it MR Gadget.

Bonine or dramamine works for me. Take before bedtime and it will help you sleep. Hope you find something to help.

If you've never had a spell and fell OFF the couch that you were LAYING on, you've never had a good one before. Meclizine hydrochloride normally helps me when things get rough. My grandfather is the same way. About every 3 months or so, a spell will hit and you go for a ride.

I've had a few bouts of this mess and boy howdy I don't want to have it again. Was sitting in Pizza Hut when the first episode hit me. For a moment I was thinking why is everything pitching and flowing up, but realized it was me falling out of the booth onto the floor. Very sickening and strange sensation. Prayers you get some relief!

I get a spell of vertigo about twice a year it seems like. It started probably 8-10 years ago and I haven't found anything that will even ease it up much less stop it. I just have to let it run its course. For me it's usually about 3 weeks. Last summer I had a spell of it and it was hands down the worst I've had. Back in the fall I had a round of it. Wasn't nearly as bad as last summer and I don't recall it lasting as long either. As long as I hold my head still I am fine, sudden movements is what always triggers mine. My dad used to get it and was constantly dizzy when he had episodes of it, I've seen him have it so bad he spent the entire day in the bed. Thankfully mine has never been that bad. You can google the "Eply manouver" it's a series of movements you can do yourself that has been known to ease symptoms. That may help you get some relief. It never has worked for me.

My only experience with it was shortly after I was married to my second wife. She got up one morning and couldn't grab her own butt. Immediately once she would stand she would be blowing groceries. Of course since I had no experience with it I was at a loss, it was her first episode and she was also. I took her to the dr. and they diagnosed it as vertigo.

The gave her a shot for nausea and some meds. Said it may go away overnight or may last a week. Luckily it did overnight. She was relatively fine to she stood up but it was all over then while it was in full swing. I feel for anyone that has reoccuring bouts of that stuff.

Try a physical therapist, there are crystals in your ears that get out of alignment and cause vertigo! If it is the crystals, there is a easy adjustment they can do to re align them.

I get it once in a while usually when I'm overly tired of under heavy pressure. Mine almost always wakes me up I take some Dramamine if I got it or benadryl and go back to bed or to the recliner. No way I can drive and I can barely walk. Even closing my eyes and moving around house don't work. Mine has never lasted more than 6 hours at most. Last few times have been pretty minor. I've never gotten medical treatment for them.

Had it once pretty bad and it gradually wore off over a period of 8 months. My world would spin counterclockwise tilted on a 45 to the left and if it hit me when driving I had to get off the road and ride it out until it passed. Looking up and left would trigger it, and as bad as it got I never got sick from it, but then I don't get sea sick either.

Best of luck with it. Aside from being a cheap drunk it's no fun.

I married one some 25 plus years ago. She has studied everything she can.
Taken me as a lab rat to classes, studies and so on.

It tears her up not being able to help or find a cure.

But man has she helped me with my back and neck. She knows her stuff. Been doing it for 30 plus years. Always staying on top of it.

Yep that and ice packs.
Looks like one of my triggers is the heat. Was out working in it a few weeks back and I think that is what triggered this time.

This ^^^^^^ I had it a few years ago. Primary care dr. sent me to a EN&T specialist. He did an adjust that had me lying on my back with my head hanging off the exam table. He turned my head to the right slowly as far as it would , then back to center , then to the left as far as it could go , again VERY SLOWLY , back to center. After a couple if those treatments I was fine. He said it realigned the "rocks" and the fine hairs in my ears. Thank goodness I've only had the one time. That's a horrible thing to go through. Good luck , hope you feel better soon.

I've had it for years, the first time it hit was when I woke up to get out of bed one morning and the room was spinning, I had to hold on to the dresser and then
the wall to get down the hall to the den and fell into the recliner instead of just sitting down.
I was at my parents house yesterday standing on a bed changing a light bulb and while looking up the room started spinning and I had to sit down for a few minutes.
Had it hit once while in a climbing stand and was very lucky I didn't fall out and get hurt.

Yep that was in some of the training my wife did.

She tried that and it helps some but does not fix mine.

I had no idea so many people suffered from this. That is pretty scary stuff. Is there any warning to when you have a spell or it just comes out of the blue?

Just happens
About the worst time.
I get mine or find I have a problem getting out if bed, take out both dogs, everthing gets blasted off the night stand and I hit walls going down.

Other times was getting out if the truck, you roll out to step down and cant find the door but you find about everything else on the way down.

that is why I move really slow doing some things and limit the time in the danger area for say.

If nothing else I want people to think about what is going on.
In a world of today most are more worried about video or pictures than putting a hand out to help or make sure someone is ok.

there is a specialty clinic at duke that treats this. they are equipped to do all the special tests to determine if it is a peripheral (treatable) or central (untreatable) problem. as a physical therapist, i have taken several courses on vertigo and do quite a bit of treatments for it. if it is a peripheral issue, it can be very easily fixed and then some ex's to work on to strengthen the vestibular system as well as things you can do to self manage if it comes back. the PT at duke's name is dr clendaniel. he works with a group of audiologists. you could also look online and see if there are any PT's that specialize in or are certified in vestibular rehab

We went to due in the past, several from wake med and Unc.

My wife is certified in VR if I remember. She is at a loss for what to do and try.

I have bouts with vertigo but have balance problems every single day due to menieres disease. Not only do I bump into things all the time both day and night I have to continually change bearings when walking towards a particular point.I almost stumble in darkness it is so bad and keep nighttime activities to a minimum.Menieres is a terrible disease and even worse it leads to profound hearing loss and even deafness and I am getting to that point very fast.

Yep been told by the specialist that I have it.
Always have the ringing. Have started with loss of hearing and I know after this event it will be like last and if tested will be more hearing loss.
Funny they tell you that you have it and know what it is, waiting for them to say what to do... then they tell you there is nothing to do.

Somehow, I ended up with Viral Labyrinthitis in Sept '10, which is a virus of the inner ear, and only time can heal it. I was feeling a little wierd one day, with cold like symptoms. That night when I went to bed, I woke up feeling like I was constantly falling backwards in a chair. I woke up all but screaming for my wife, who was still watching television. When she came in, I was hanging on to the sheets, feeling like I was falling, and constantly throwing up. She took me to hospital, where I stayed for a week. The first three days, I couldn't speak or open my eyes, or I would immediately vomit. Finally, I realized that the only way that I could see was to turn my head as far as I could, have my eye as tight to the corner of my eye as I could, which helped keep my eyes from vibrating, and only then could I crack one eye open. It took me a week to be able to walk with a walker. I was out of work for a few weeks, and was fortunate to have a job that isn't physical. I had to be driven to work and helped to my desk for about two weeks after leaving the hospital.
The worst day was the first, and every day would gradually get better. It was April of the next year (7 months) before the vertigo was gone, and I learned ways to make it not so bad. No meds helped. This was vertigo on steroids!!!

Yes, I have suffered from vertigo! The plus to this was... before Sept '10, I couldn't deep sea fish or read a book on a plane or car without getting sick. I have zero motion sickness now. Nothing bothers me that use to. Now, before I fly or ride in the back seat of a car, I'll grab a book to read. So there is a plus side.

Funny part was, in Aug '11, I was sitting at my desk, having no issues with vertigo for a couple months. I looked towards the blinds in my office and they seemed to be moving. My immediate thought was, NO, PLEASE NOT AGAIN! Then I found out that there was a small earthquake! I immediately said then...thank God it was just an earthquake!!

Good LORD!

So, do you or any other sufferers have techniques or specialists you recommend? Emphatically? I already have written down Physical Therapist for crytals in the ear.

I just feel for anyone who is going through it! It is horrible, and absolutely the worst thing that I've ever experienced! I did have a few short (few minutes) episodes since where it would hit me, but I started to realize that mine would only last a short period, and I would ride it out. Mine was caused by a virus, and I haven't had any problems at all for, probably, 5 years. Like I mentioned, being sick with this has helped me with all motion sickness. I can spin on the worst rides and read a book, upside down and not feel a thing.
I do remember the doctor at the hospital tell me, and at the time I didn't believe him, that your body will subconsciously find ways to overcome the symptoms. I now believe he was right. But that was me and what I personally was going through.
