Pop and Lock PAL 5400

I can't believe my 2015 Toyota Tacoma did not come with a locking tailgate & there is not an OEM part I can order. Has anyone installed a Pop and Lock PAL5400 aftermarket tailgate handle with lock on their Tacoma? I am getting ready to put an ARE camper shell on my truck and think I am going to need to be able lock the tailgate in addition to the rear window on the shell. How has your Pop and Lock held up so far?

That is just the start of the problems.
when you add the cover you will need overload springs or air bags.

For that year they had many problems with springs, rear brakes and several other items.

Glad I sold mine off it was nothing but problems.

BTW they work seen that lock on many, was going to get it but the camper cover holds the tailgate closed and no real need.

Mr Gadget, Let me make sure I am understanding you right. The ARE Z-Series truck cap I am installing only weighs approx. 150 lbs. & I do not typically haul a lot of weight. Do you still think I will need an air bag suspension kit or overload springs?

Mine was fiberglass cab high. Made it squat in the back.
Add some hunting gear you would hit the bump stops at every bridge on 540 a d 440.
I95 would damn near kill you.

Mine was 4x4, LB, 4d.

That ARE will way more than 150.
I think the weight they list was base no liner, not windows and so on.

BTW I just sold an ari bag kit for the Toyota.

Sold them for 150, new about 350 to 400.

Firestone loadrite was the only good one.
