Stock turkey feather inlay

Pic heavy and will continue to be. I was going for an antique wood look since the gun is a single shot H&R that I have messed with. I now wish I would have gone with a blonde stain look to make the feather stick out more. Not that I'm in a rush but once I start something I like to see a result quick. I am kind of impatient. It would be nice to show off before the season closes in camp. Any way.

More to come once this sets up. It has to be lightly sanded with steel wool and cleared with poly a few times. It is a hunting gun and I lost the original butt plate but do I have a slip on recoil pad that will go on once said and done. Not perfect but a good test run for people wanting something personal on their gun stock.

Well I started over because the dark antique stain really saturated the feather and wasn't as visible as I would have liked. So I stripped the stock back down and rough sanded the stain out to get some birch light tones back out of the wood. Got the 12ga hull fitting good and a new feather epoxied into place. Then brushed them over with epoxy twice to create a secure bubble for them. I'm on the first coat of poly now.

I like the look of this and have an older single shot H&R given to me by my late grandfather that I may try something like this on. My only question is, wouldn't it be very slick with the multiple coats of poly? Like it would be too slippery to use with any moisture in the air at all?
