New Shop

Saw someone else's thread about building a small shed and thought I'd share the progression so far of my new man cave. :) I'm also going to build a few sheds for the farm here in the not too distant future, bought a Dewalt Lithium Ion Framing Nailer to help with that since my shoulders are worn out.

Someone said build twice as big as you think you want/need and that's absolutely true.

With that in mind I've done this one in a way that is expandable without too much trouble. Since my back was out and I desperately needed a shop here I hired out the initial build, built my other shop with Deerjager at the other house. Will build the next myself if the back is kind to me. The overall footprint is 36'x54' with the current enclosed area being 30'x36' with 12' sidewalls and already wish I had opted for 16', but will get that on the next one. I'm already in the process of adding another shed/lean to off the back and enclosing another 12'x36' section and finishing the interior with a U shaped storage loft. I'll add progress pictures along the way if folks are interested in seeing them. This particular building is going to be an entertainment, grilling, smoking/smoker area outside of what is stored in the 12x36 area off the back.

Forgot about the limit.

The coolest thing so far are the LED lights I've had put up. If you look up with them off you don't even think I have lights. Used the magnetic fluorescent retrofits and love them.

what type of insulation did you use in the roof?

It's the same as the wall insulation. I'm not sure of the R value, but know that a small kerosene heater will run you out of it. I burned one in there while the concrete was curing. I'm pretty sure I'm installing a 'mini split' system for heat/air.

Where did you get the metal truss? What's with the purlins through the truss? I'm getting ready to build another shop and looked at those metal truss on Craigslist. What kind of span did you put between them? PM if you prefer. Thanks. Doug.

The spans are 12' between trusses. You can get these type trusses from many suppliers now. James Street Construction in Connelly Springs did these and I 'think' the purlins going through the trusses are there to stabilize and keep them from torque/twisting, but that's complete speculation on my part. Could simply be a section to mount lights to and I over thought it.
