How do you go about catching Spanish/blues in the surf? Does it take long casts? Also when fishing with bait do you typically just let soak or slow retrieve?

For blues and Spanish you can wade out to about waist deep and throw a Kastmaster 1.5oz spoon. They fly like rockets. Retrieve it fast... Basically I retrieve it about as fast as I would if I were reeling in a rod to check my bait.. Just try different speeds until you start hooking up. Morning is generally better. 10-15 pound braid will let you cast a mile even with just a 7ft medium act rod

Just don't forget to tie on a 3-5ft 30-50lb mono leader to your main line
