Youth hunt 2020 for turkeys

Out of state cousin.

They LOVE the FL outdoors! Never shot a firearm (1 day for gun safety and target practice, next day for hunting).

Is DYING to go turkey "hunting" not killing. Wants to hear clucks, purrs, hopefully a gobble. Does not expect to "get lucky".

I would be the escort.

What do they need being from out of state, hunting in NC as a minor (15) on leased land?

Yes, I am being lazy, as I could read the entire ncwildlife.org website and answer my own questions, but didn't because I'm busy and I have to decide soon if it's worth airline tickets and a missed day of their school or not.

Do they need a out of state license? Hunter safety certificate?

Also, just out of respect, I think I'm going to put us in open woods together, not a blind over a landing zone. No disrespect to others, I just want the hunt to be as natural as possible. Even a nose scratch can be the end of a hunt.

Youth hunters don't need a license, only a license exempt BGRC. They can hunt under your direct supervision also without H.S.

You'll never regret taking them. I would assume he is eligible for the youth week stuff the week prior to the opener. Best time to expose him to the sport.
Good Luck!

Youth under age 16 are exempt from the requirement of a hunting license provided they comply with the following:
  • Youth who have not obtained a Certificate of Competency showing their completion of the hunter safety course must be accompanied by a properly licensed adult when hunting.
  • Youth who have obtained a Certificate of Competency, may hunt without being accompanied by an adult, but must carry their certificate while hunting.
  • Youths exempt from the hunting license requirement must obtain a “License-Exempt Big Game Harvest Report Card” when hunting deer, bear or wild turkey. Youth hunting bear must also obtain a "Bear Management E-Stamp". There is no fee for the License-Exempt Big Game Harvest Report Card or Bear Management E-Stamp for youth.

If possible it sounds like a good reason for you to enjoy an early Florida hunt . Spend a few days "scouting" then take the kid.
