People. People are the problem
Exactly
humans should not live on the outer banks
humans should not have full time habitat lower than the ocean surge zone

The Ogilby Map of 1672 shows both Roanoke and Currituck Inlets open at that time. Circa 1700 John Lawson describes RI as having "Ten Foot Water", and "Course over the bar is almost W.", and located at "Lat. 35 deg. 50 min.". This would be very close to what is today known as Whalebone Junction. When I ask someone if they think lack of a inlet north of Oregon Inlet and humans stopping any new inlets from opening had a trickle effect on fish populations in our sounds, they look at me like I have two heads.
