You missed it

I always figured late Feb would be best.
Do you have good results doing it in early January?

yes, you can even seed your yard like this( frost seeding works best for blue grass as the seeds are tiny) but fescue is good to put down right before a snow. just takes longer to come up. clover has done fine for me in January when it come to deer and wldlife.

Whatever combination of wet soil with extended deep cold has produced some of the more intense frost heaving I have seen. Yesterday, I had patches of moss that are raised up 2-3", and well over 4" in extreme cases.

Imagine after the snow melt, seeding on the next big freeze. Should be the best of both worlds.
In general we have several big freezes after January and often even more snow. Germination happens when everything lines up and you want to plan that your seedlings don't get slammed with a hard freeze. That's why I recommend February in my area, it gets dern cold until a couple of months after that.

That was my thought too. Seeding in mid-late February in our area - trying to catch that last hard freeze - was always my thought. Even though I haven't utilized frost seeding a lot. It seems like the birds work pretty hard on any seeds, and I wouldn't want one of those Carolina warm spells to germinate the seed, then get a hard freeze right after.

I will probably throw out some grass seed next week, just to try it, even though it seems a little early. Can't let perfect be the enemy of good.

Has anyone tried to frost seed into a spot that wasn't already a disced up area or a food plot?

in the south its ok to do it mid jan to late feb. seeds are not gonna sprout unless you get a period of freak warm weather so most likely seeds thrown out this week vs in 3 -4 weeks from now are gonna sprout the same time. you could also get a freak cold spell in march as well so its all a gamble. my hope was the great frost seeding conditions with a possible snow . late feb is fine though.
