I always figured late Feb would be best.
Do you have good results doing it in early January?
That was my thought too. Seeding in mid-late February in our area - trying to catch that last hard freeze - was always my thought. Even though I haven't utilized frost seeding a lot. It seems like the birds work pretty hard on any seeds, and I wouldn't want one of those Carolina warm spells to germinate the seed, then get a hard freeze right after.Imagine after the snow melt, seeding on the next big freeze. Should be the best of both worlds.
In general we have several big freezes after January and often even more snow. Germination happens when everything lines up and you want to plan that your seedlings don't get slammed with a hard freeze. That's why I recommend February in my area, it gets dern cold until a couple of months after that.
