Had a project set aside and just started back at it.
Working on a Coehorn 24 pounder Mortar.
Had to do some drilling to do for the vent and about ready to blast and paint.
Base will be constructed next.

My back is killing me now.
After working on the vent have been cleaning and getting ready to finish.
Been playing with some rust blue type finish. Want to knock down the shine but kind of leave it in the raw.
This one shoots a 24 pound round iron case or like I shoot it weighs about 18 pounds.
5.78" ID bore.

Why not rust browning. I would say rust blueing but the boiling portion would be problematic.

Got a lot of spots in it not sure what it is. Tried a few things and just cant get some sectio s to take anything. May sand blast it and see if that works better than just degreasing.
Several of the iron tubes in the civil war were just left raw and took what ever fish the weather and oil would bring. May just blast it and set it in the weather.

Back up plan is to just have it dipped or painted. Burnt bronze would look cool...
Now to find wood for the base..
