Wood accent wall

I'm re-doing my office /man cave and am entertaining the idea of putting up an accent wall to display mounts and other stuff. I've been looking at options and the idea of using pallet planks looks cool. I'm not stuck on this so give me some ideas and please share your experiences. Thanks.

Rough fence pickets. I know someone who bought about 500 from Lowe's when they were on sale.for .99 to do a wall.....

Also, not sure where you are located, but if you decide to do pallets, let me know I have some you can have. Not just small ones, but 8ft x 6 ft ones also.

Started on some knee wall access doors for a renovation I am doing. This is the first prototype. We learned that using different stain colors makes it look better. Also using a lp torch to darken the wood in random areas along the length of the pallet wood gives it a good look.
The white trim sitting on top and bottom are not going to be used.
I have 6 of these to make and then two barn door sliders to make as well.

I closed in an old carport just recently and finished it off inside. Used rough cut pine. I’m pleased with how it turned out. Just seal coated it.

From 80 free pallets. May have some left over if you want it. Taken apart already. Give me another month or so and I will be able to let you know. It was a royal pain in my a$$ taking apart, but worth it.

Heck yeah I'd be interested. I've pulled a few apart, it sucks!

Thanks for the replies. After talking with some folks, I've abandoned the pallet idea for the exact reason Newsome said. I ain't a patient man.

I have seen an accent wall that I thought looked really neat, though time consuming to do.
It was done in tobacco sticks.

DB and MO, your walls look great. Thanks for the pictures.

Mine was really cheap, too. I went to the salvage yard and bought pine 1x12s. I furred it with 1x4s (block walls). Ceiling is rough plywood with 1x4 trim. Nothing fancy.

Good luck. Post photos.

If you go the pallet route, invest in a stand up demo bar like a deckwrecker or the like. We use them to demo old decks and it is nice to be able to work standing up.

More times than not they use screw nails if you are going to do many take a saw zaw and cut the nails off on the back side of the boards you want to save and then use a cats paw to just remove the heads. It is much easier. If it could be called easy.
