Ed, Emily and Eric , from 3 diff stations in Gboro put our NW corner of Chatham with 3-5" and 1/4"-1/2" ice, then some rain

STILL TIME for changing it too!

At least if they are calling for ice its after the snow. If it ices first we are screwed.

The table is set for someone to get crushed with some huge totals. Looks like Asheville up to Boone could see 2 feet with some models acting stupid and going up to 3 feet. Outside of the mountains it's going to boil down to how much sleet mixes in. This could hinder totals alot for someone while 1 county over might get all snow.

Models have trended slightly colder and snowier for areas east of Raleigh as well before switching to rain. WWA we have out says 2 inches unless it stays colder longer like some of models suggest then we might see 4 to 5 inches.

Not to sound cliche' but I hope you guys out west have your milk and bread.

I'd rather see a lot of snow than freezing rain; and some of the forecasts for central NC are calling for up to a quarter inch of freezing rain. That's enough to start bringing down power lines & trees........

nat weather service forecast is a disaster. winds gustng 25-35 quarter inch of ice. on top ofrecord snows for this time of year.
Just what NC needs after two hurricanes. (n)

The Hi res models sure do want to push a warm nose well inland this could crush snow totals outside of the western foothills and mts.....they tend to do very well with temp profiles in this range so at least at this point it looks like lower snow totals with more sleet mixed in, though still places will see 6-10" of sleet and snow and thats significant but widespread 12-20" totals seem less likely right now......still a few degrees one way or the other will have a huge impact and the models just cant get it that close in these setups.

The trend is warmer in the mid levels so that will cut into snow amounts.....a lot. Places that a few days ago had clown map totals of 12-24" might end up with 3-5"......thats why they are called clown maps.......still a major event for west of I-77 and places like the Triad over to north of the Triangle will still get a big event for around here just not the silly insane type event the models had until yesterday.

No surprise, what is forecast vs what comes down is usually a fraction of what originally said. Looking forward to cold rain here

Do you guys have any differences of opinion on this map? Is it in line with what you are thinking?

its probably close to what the low end would be I think for most of those areas.....it also depends on how you measure the snow.....a lot of places might get 12" before changing to sleet and then get a 1" of sleet which will compact the whole mess down to 6-7"......

Asheville to Hickory to Winston and NW of there stand the best chance of getting a 12" or more of pure straight up snow before any sleet works in, and if sleet doesnt work in they could add 4-6" on top of that 12". East of there it will drop off till you get the the Triangle where 2-4" on the east side and 4-7" on the west side is expected.....east of there be happy to get a few slushy inches. CLT is also a ? they could easily see 5-8" of snow or a lot of sleet say 2-3" of it.....regardless conditions will go downhill fast west to east across NC this evening and overnight.

8:00 PM and Gastonia is still just rain so far. Intellicast radar shows snow line down to middle way Lincoln County to the North, maybe 25 miles distant. I'm not breaking out the chains and snowshoes just yet but the snow shovels are on standby.

Ready here as well...luckily, no need or plans to leave the house...got everything restocked / resupplied yesterday.
Put a fresh charge on the generator battery this morning, then let it run outside for 10 minutes.

Noticed WRAL is saying Wake County will probably get 6" of snow.
Hope everybody gets through whatever it turns out to be without any damage or injuries...
