What predictions do you have for the hurricanes destruction of the wild turkeys in Florida and Georgia?

I hate to see such a big storm hit almost to the day that Hugo came on land and destroyed so much turkey habitat. I hope the local flocks in NC. Fair well, winds and flooding ,downed trees.Seen where Georgia has a decline in turkeys as of recently, this won't help.

Or will it create new habitat? Downed trees means more sunlight to the forest floor which results in new growth.

The habitat isn’t really the concern for the turkeys. It’s surviving the storm.
True, if they are no longer with us, the habitat improvement doesn’t matter, but I have wondered what it is like to be them, or any other wildlife, during one of these storms. What are the ducks, deer, geese, quail, squirrels, etc doing? The biggest explosion of turkeys I’ve seen in my lifetime has been post Fran and Floyd.

Can a turkey stay roosted in a tree during tropical storm force winds or are they sitting ducks for the coyotes overnight?

How about Osceola’s in Nc…. Just thinkin outside the bottle…. I mean box
NC is full of them. Or FL is full of easterns. To-may-to to-mah-to.

Genetically they are identical. The differences are habitat driven. That’s why you see ‘Osceolas’ regularly come from the low country from SC to Mississippi.

Like most it's not a one simple answer like back during that one hurricane that was bad in SC it really hurt the Frances marion for while made it more of nasty mess than was bird numbers did drop but wasn't that far away that numbers increased so yeah they'll be some regional impact at least short term but overall they'll just keep on doing their thing. Gotta suck though be a tree roosting bird in a storm like that.

I can't say about a big storm but I do know in really windy rain they will lean to roosr lower limbs in pines where available in mtns.
