What? No one has bumped the SNAKE thread? 2025 sightings....

Saw a decent sized black snake in the neighbors driveway sunning the other day. Was cutting some libs back yesterday so I wouldn't hit my head mowing and about grabbed a 3ft black snake. It wasn't happy with me chopping the limb it was sitting on and took a couple of strikes. Had my daughter come out and drag the limbs off. She wants a snake and had her bearded dragon on her shoulder while she was dragging limbs. I showed her the snake and she asked if she could grab it. I told her that one was pretty pissed and to leave it alone. She pulled her phone out to take some pictures and it struck at her phone. She probably has a picture but I was busy working.

A guy I work with walked up on one eating a SQUIRREL. I just asked if he had a photo.....lol.
I've removed one from my chicken coop that had swallowed the head and neck of a full sized hen (one of my favorites of course). He was over 8 feet in length and his head was as big as three fingers wide. I've removed several over 7 feet in length and had another smaller hen killed by a snake last year but couldn't verify the culprit so the rest haven't met the fate of the first monster black rat snake. One that size could easily swallow a squirrel or even a full sized rabbit.

Damn! That is a monster!

i had a 5 foot black snake in the chicken lot a couple days ago but no phone for a pic. Didnt bother it being i was in a rush and now my egg count has been low. it will be hauled off the next time it shows up.

Several copperheads along the Neuse River Trail this spring. I think they come out to warm up on the pavement late in the evenings. No pictures, I'm usually on the bicycle.

This past weekend in my backyard in Cabarrus County. I flipped a rock over to move it and this little guy was staring at me. My fingertips couldn't have been more than 2" from his snout when I flipped the rock. Scared the piss out of me. He still had a yellow green tail and was probably born last year.

This was in Orange county today. It looks like this snake has a triangular head but it might be spread out trying to swallow the frog.
It might be a water snake but the head makes me think moccasin. Screenshot_20250522_184505_Messages.webp

One of the water snakes. Pretty sure a northern. But a fat one that eats lots of fish and toads. Head shape and pupils are not good indicators, but the tornado pattern on his back is. And if you’re in Orange County, you’re a good 2 counties outside of the cottonmouth’s range.

Seen 2 long, healthy black snakes so far and 2 adult garter snakes, one didn’t survive the bush hog yesterday.

This one was laying behind my mailbox last Thursday night. Walked 2ft by him and he lifted his head to check me out. Went and got a hoe then sent him back to Satan……

Just cleaning pool skimmers out and found a small one swimming around. Assume some kind of rat snake. Gave him a good hee-haw over the fence. Cleaned out pump basket and found 4 or 5 very baby ones of some sort drowned. First time in 10 years I’ve had that many at once. Ewww.

Was helping my wife cut out stuff for bible school yesterday and went to my shop to grab some tape. Left the door open and went back out to grab my grab my metal 60 straight edge a few minutes later. Between my two trips a black snake decided to rest of top of my door. As I went into the building it struck at my face missed by maybe 2 inches. I am not a jumpy person but that sure made me jump and let out a few cuss words. Grabbed my straight edge and lifted its head so I could get back out the door then I picked him up and put him under the building. Probably about 3ft long. Didn't have my phone so no pictures.

Back in May. The wife and I had just gotten back from our Harkers Island trip. Her sister was staying at our house, looking after their 81yo mom who is in declining health. My SIL told us there was a snake in one of our chickens nesting boxes. So i check that evening. And nothing. Went back in the morning and there it was. This one didn't try to bite me or anything. Maybe dazed by the headlamp. Of course I had to show it to my wife, she is afraid of snakes and everyone is a copperhead. I turned it loss on the otherside of our property.
Im disappointed it hasn't showed back up.
