As a deacon I have several families that I help out. Most of my families are elderly. Went by and checked on each one today. All with no power but are doing fine. These older people know how to survive I asked if they needed anything but they said they was ok and even asked if I needed anything no church service tomorrow but I told them to be at church parking lot at 2:00pm and I was going to cook the some chicken pot pie and sloppy joes cowboy style.

Better perspective on the complete devastation of Chimney Rock. A few areas here have power restored, but we had to travel towards Shelby to get cell service.

Pretty much everything from Statesville West is damaged in some way...Wilkes is limited in power, Alexander limited, Ashe county wrecked, Watauga, you name it all the way to the state line and beyond...I 40 is damaged in several spots...closed down westbound starting in Statesville at I-77...

I work with Baptist on Mission as often as my group can for prodow east. They are a fantastic organization as previously stated and will be mobilizing to the area soon. They will start assessments as soon as possible and the the coordinated efforts to help will begin.

Just heard from my daughter @ 2:30 am. She is safe, thank God! She texted my son with more details because she thinks we’re out of cell coverage. I have cell service by some miracle right now in my second story, but none downstairs. Mine & my wife’s phone woke us with a text alert from Sarah. Best wake up ever!
We got our front yard cleared of all the broken limbs and debris today. I am going to leave the two big, downed trees in the back yard for another day. I lost a lot of trees on my wooded area on my property, but I am going to leave those alone since my wooded lots are a major travel area for deer.
I helped my neighbor remove two HUGE widow maker limb’s hanging in trees. We have some really old & large pines between us. One widow-maker pine limb was larger in diameter than my forearm. There is one massive one left high up that we need to figure out how to get down.

Yeah, I-40 is a mess, more so the further west you go. I have no word on I-26 yet.

Some areas of 74 around Asheville are in bad shape. Where is your starting point? I do know 74 from Forest City to I-85 @ Gastonia/Kings Mountain is in good shape. I did not travel very far west on 74, but it is in good shape within a few miles of the Polk county line.
Stop & fill your gas tank in Gastonia because a lot of gas stations here in Rutherford & Cleveland county are out. I am sure it is worse the further west you go on 74. If you need drinks, bottled water, propane or ice, get it when stop for fuel. These are scarce here & I can only imagine it is worse the higher up & further west you go.

I just got a little cell service back this morning, I did get to take a hot shower this morning at my in-laws, my area was hit pretty hard with downed trees everywhere, I know gas is very scarce around this area, I am praying for everybody affected by this storm, if yall could send up a prayer for my mom my dad took her to the ER this morning and I’m going to try my best to get to them

Should be good for fuel till Shelby, at least. We've got some friends from Lake Lure area shuttling to Shelby for their resupply...they took a tree through their house.
Murphy express up there is showing 2.59/ga for reg on gas buddy also...
