Day 2 of the first split - we didn’t leave empty handed from a buddy’s pond. Hunting from an elevated blind was a first for both me and Katy, but she retrieved both birds quickly and came up the stairs into the blind like a champ.

Nice brace of Mallards to start off the season.

All I got today - time well spent and the familiar look of disappointment.

Solo hunt today. Decent amount of woodies and some did it right. Had a limit of woodies but couldn’t find one in the grass. Water was as low as I’ve seen in there

Super slow two days for us - talked to a bunch of groups and buddies all over ENC and it was the same report everywhere except the impoundments

Saw a decent amount of woodducks this morning. They didn’t fly like they normally do there. They were mostly coming from a different direction and most wanted to be somewhere else. Water is still a little low in the swamp but a lot higher than the first split. One short of a 2 man limit on woodies

Had a nice hunt this morning with some buddies. Saw woodies, mallards, black ducks, widgeon and teal. And brought home a mixed bag.

Mixed bag of pups and mixed bag of birds
20 green wings, 1 blue wing, 1 gadwall, 1 wigeon, 1 tank of a mallard. The wind was howling 25+ for most of the day and made finishing big ducks difficult.

The Blackhead lit in wood duck decoys at 5:46 and sat there for 17 minutes until go time.

Tickle hill with me as usual but dang was it slow for this time of year! Lost one bird, ended up with green wings, a blue wing and a boot lip. There were a lot more birds here during that early split two weeks ago.

The ducks didn't cooperate as we had trouble getting water in time, due to the drought. As we were sitting there, watching the few birds that were flying around, it dawned on me that it was the first time I'd ever had both of my kids in the duck blind with me. It was definitely a picture worthy occasion. Normally we have a 1 guest rule, but since nobody was coming, I got to bring 2. We ended up with 2 wood ducks. Should have had a couple more, but I totally whiffed on a easy pair out my corner.

Pretty sporty this am but we A little sporty on the water this morning but we had a decent mixed bag. My old man got a work out.

shooting light started at 6:04 and had 7 man limits from 3 blinds completed at 0743 this morning,,,,,mostly Gadwall, with a few spoonies and teal mixed in
