Urban archery ????

Can someone explain this season to me? I am in the west end and there are a few places nearby listed on the urban archery areas. Is it mostly for private land owners in city limits? Or how can you locate where is off limits etc? I'm envisioning people setup in their kids tree houses shooting deer in their yards lol

You have to hunt private land in a city limit that is on the list. I'm not sure if all, but at least most of the participating towns have a map with the areas that you are allowed to actually hunt. The reason is, just because a town is participating doesn't mean that every property/area in the limits are open (I.e.downtown). Also, each town has a separate ordinance that you'll need to check on. For example: a town may say that you have to have at least x amount of acres on a certain property to be allowed, which would eliminate people in half acre lots sitting in their kids treehouse. Or, one notorious town said that they want to know every stand that you plan to hunt and you had to call them to let the local LEO know when you go in and out. Some are strick, some not so much. But make sure you look at the city's ordinances before hunting the Urban Archery.
There may be more, but that's what I gathered from messing with it for a few years.

Thanks for the informative reply. Every year I toy with the idea.

I checked one town a couple of years ago, and they didn't know what I was asking about. They finally found some papers with the rules. You had to have written permission from a landowner with at least 5 acres. If you shot a deer and it crossed property lines, you had to go get written permission from that owner before retrieving your deer. It was crazy and not really worth the effort.

I started looking into it one year and came to the same conclusion.

URBAN ARCHERY SEASON DATES: JANUARY 13 - FEBRUARY 17

Elkin

NCWRC regulates the Urban Archery Season in Elkin. We always remind hunters to only hunt on property where you have permission from the property owner. Written permission prevents any possible dispute that you received permission and that permission was given by the property owner. Please let me know if you have other questions. Stay safe.

Jonesville

I hope all is well and you are staying warm. Below is the information you need regarding the Urban Archery Season.

All North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission regulations remain in effect. Hunting of deer is allowed within the municipal limits of the Town of Jonesville using “legal archery equipment” (as defined by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission) for the taking of deer.

Such use must be on private property (not on any property owned or controlled by the Town of Jonesville such as parks, greenways, etc) and the person using the archery equipment must have the expressed, written permission of the property owner on which the activity is taking place.

Hunting activities are allowed during any period of time designated by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission for the legal taking of deer by use of archery equipment. Refer to the N.C Wildlife Resources Commission for information on exact season dates.

No hunting activity may occur on any Sunday within the municipal limits regardless of designated season.

If you have any other questions or need anything further do not hesitate to call or email me.

Thank you,

Wendy Thompson

I've got two spots in summerfield for urban archery. They don't have any BS rules like some of the other cities.

Seems I saw an urban archery list in the regs. book but it was only a list of towns. I think each town can have their own rules so would have to be contacted directly.
