UNC looked good...

this would be interesting because we would play Florida and we will get absolutely positively slaughtered. It will be the game that would’ve happened had unc played auburn to begin the year. At least that is my prediction.

If UNC plays UF, UNC will win in a romp. The florida D is worse than Miami....probably about as bad as Duke. They are hot trash in a dumpster fire bad.

Okay

Okay, you’re right they did set records. That is a nice accomplishment. I will give them credit for the fact that when they play a team that has little defense they’re offense looks like the greatest of all time. They hit Miami up for like 778 yards or something like that.....that’s awesome. Good job. But idc if they run for 3000 yards a piece and put 1500 yards of offense in a single game. They still have 3 losses and they’re still just a back of the pack top 25 team. Like it or not. But maybe you’re right, maybe they’re heading in the right direction.

I sense some sarcasm. Are you deep-down a wolfpack fan? No wrong answers here.

Did you attend UNC? Or, were you denied admission?

No need to mention that UNC and state are both great schools with a variety of options. I the previous post, you refer to UNC as "they," not "we." I have ever heard of a fan citing their favorite team as "they." Just curious.

I should’ve said “we”

and no I did not attend unc. just a life long fan. Thought about doing my bachelors in nursing at unc but elected elsewhere.
And I absolutely hate nc state in football......but it’s just a rivalry thing and it really started during the chuck amato days. I don’t let being a heels fan cloud my good judgement or realism.

what ever you say, lol. not once have I ever heard you praise UNC.. The unc D has looked a lot better and stopped Miami on the openeing drive and they only got 3 instead of a TD....that was BIG.

We will just have disagree ....i know Mack is a Great coach and UNC has improved dramatically under him. Here are my predictions. IF uNC goes to the orange bowl they will probably lose to Florida. That doesnt make the team or season a disaster. that would be 8-4..... i do however give them a chance in the game especially if the D keeps improving.

also Mack will have a team finish in the top 10 within the next few years. Now , I am gone to ride my motorcycle. You go back to dislike unc

Great Job yesterday Heels.!!! Statement on National TV,
I wouldn't say they'd probably lose to Fla that D in swamp has been below average most year which 8s a Mullen issue I believe. I could see a shootout type game where turnover could go either way to win.

i understand. it would be great if both programs stepped up and made some noise in the conference on a regular basis. both have great facilities.

you better look good at this "bad" unc defense.
That wont be the case in the near future. IMO. :) They are playing some very young players due to opt out and talent shortages.

I sure wish @Tipmoose would be correct about a match up with FL.
But alot of things have to happen for the game to occur.

as for COY. I guess it should go to ND's coach.
Is he even eligible?
I dont think you make it a most improved award and give it to a program like DD's. Just my opinion.

There’s a reason why I brought up last years COY. I guess I’ll explain to the lay-persons around here.

Scott Satterfield won it with a regular season record of 7-5.
The Cardinals had 0 expectations. Picked by the media to finish way down bottom and went out and had a good year. Sounds familiar with a program this year in Raleigh that your bias won’t get credit to. Wonder if Scott won with his back up QB?
Just a question, didn't Hochman start the first couple of games for State. So he was the starter chosen by future Coach of the Year Dave Doeren. Leary was the backup, so you played most of the year with your starter and your back up is the one that got hurt. Correct?

I am not positive, but I believe Leary missed the first few games due to illness.

NO. Leary was the starter until some issues with "the covids" forced him to miss a couple of weeks of practice. Hockman was announced starter immediately before the Wake game. Caught most Pack fans off guard. Leary was 3-0 as a starter. Came in late in the Duke game after Leary broke his leg. Did a great job as a back up but watching his play you could see why he was not the starter going into the season. I will say he improved throughout the season. But Leary is the future.

You guys may be correct about the illness. Leary was available for the 2nd game against VT but Hockman started. Leary came in late in the 3rd qtr. Looking at their stats they're basically the same. Hockman had a better completion %, 63% to 60% for Leary. Yards per attempt the same. QB rating 148 to 141 for Leary. I don't see that much difference between the two. I guess it will all play out next if they both come back to State.

Hockman started the second game due to his success in the first game. Stats do not always tell the entire story about a QB. I am very pleased at the way Hockman played AS A BACKUP. But if you watched any State games with him playing you know what I am talking about....................dropped snaps, bad throws (Duke game one turned into a TD but was an AWFUL throw), bad decisions (safety throw out of the back of the end zone) etc.........Again, the kid played well for a back up and showed a ton of improvement. But there is just the IT factor. No way he could have lead the game winning drive against Pitt like Leary did. Also Leary gives us a much better deep game. When you can get 8 men out of the box it sure helps the running game. Very excited to watch next years team win. I will say these kids do not have any "give up" in them and they seem to enjoy playing together. I want to see what OC and DC do if they have a normal spring and summer to work with the kids.

I'll piggy back shotgunners comments.

Leary was named the starter at the end of last year and headed into spring. There wasn't a QB competition in fall. Leary fell victim to contract tracing in fall camp causing him to miss a lot of fall camp leading up to Wake Forest. You can't play a guy that isn't on the practice field/film room preparing for an opponent. Bailey Hockman started against WF and played pretty well. Leary was out of quarantine and participated in the weeks practice leading to Virginia Tech. Doeren went with Hockman because of his play against WF and he struggled against VT. Leary came in and played well. Leary would start and lead State to 3 wins in the next 3 games with 2 being on the road. Been a while since State won back to back ACC road games. 3rd game is the Duke game where Leary broke his leg. Hockman would go onto start the final 6 games and finish 4-2. Hockman proved to be the best backup QB's in the ACC as he got better each week.

So to answer you're question. State played most of the year with their backup, not their starter. Their backup just happened to be pretty darn good.

Will be interested to see what happens next year. Can't see them both at State considering 4 Star QB Aaron Mclaughlin will be here in the fall. I think its still Leary's job because he's a better passer with a better arm. Hockman as already transferred twice from FSU and JUCO. With it being a free year for everyone, they transfer market will be as crazy as its every been.

I agree. Also the Finley kid. I did not see him play but it sounded like he had a few good drives and then...............................well, welcome to college football true freshmen. I like the attitude of the McLaughlin kid coming in. The way he responded to the guy on twitter about the porn star comment was priceless.

He had scripted plays that worked and caught UNC off guard. They adjusted and then well, you see the true freshman show up. He isn't ready yet but he could be in a year or 2.

....as for Mack he is in the Hall of fame and a great coach .

Mack Brown had UNC legitimately several times in the top 10

NOT because of his unc@ch time. And when if ever did he have unc@ch legitimately in the top 10? Don't say the year their only loss was to FSU. I was at that game, I WANTED unc@ch to win because I knew one of their star players. I was upset by how poorly they were thrown around the field that day. I am not talking trash, just stating facts which I witnessed, which imho makes them my opinions ;).

Ruh Roh, I made mine before reading further posts :(. Anyways, if deleted, it said "congrats to all fans of the teams you are fans of, but are in no way connected to financially, alumni, or played for."

Something along those lines.
