Looking at new tractors. After doing a little research, Mahindra seems to be a good choice. I have a dealer not far from me in Ellenboro. Looking at the 5155 utility model 55 hp. Anyone have any experience with Mahindra Tractors.

For that size, we have had a 5055e JD that I have been using for my garden the last 8 years. It lifts/pulls implements that are above its class. Green is worth the extra green.

Everyone I personally know that has a Mahindra likes them. They seem to be a solid choice at a cheaper price point. They usually do this by using older technology which isn't a bad thing necessarily. Nothing wrong with Green if you like your JD dealer. I have a fundamental problem with their business model of proprietary software and that ongoing lawsuit. In the sub 60hp market Kubota owns the crown in my opinion. I own JD, Kubota, International, new holland, Oliver and Alis Chalmers so brand loyal ain't me. New tractors have gone through the roof so pick the one that has the features you need at the price point that works for you from a dealer you enjoy working with and roll on.

Been keeping an eye on market and talking to anyone that has a tractor in the sub-50 hp space Kubota seems to be the brand of choice but I’d put mahindra as a close 2nd and really specs on mahindra are a little better then then kubotas. The green ones are a little proud of themselves and haven’t heard a lot of love for the smaller deeres.

I have a 3616 4wd with a bucket. Had it about 10 years. Hasn't been a bad tractor considering I've only had the clutch replaced twice and the motor rebuilt once . None of which was under warranty . Got to say I'm not easy on equipment. I also have a jd with transmission problems so I don't know if one is any better than the other.

I've used Mahindra for many years, Indian tractors have pretty much ruled the sub 35 HP slot for a long time even some of the big boys sell tractors painted different colors that have many parts from that part of the world.
For larger tractors even the Czech tractors are decent for the price, lots of good luck with Zetor but be prepared to add hydraulic hookups on them
if you want multiple hookups, that's something they seem to lack on the smaller stuff.

How many hours on it? My old 886 international has over 19000 hours and only one motor rebuild. JD 6415 has almost 8000 and other than injection pump issues is solid.

I have a Massey Ferguson and have been well pleased with it. I've tortured the thing and it's never let me down.

Since you're local you should come eat breakfast with NCBowjunkie, Deerjager and me sometime. We're at Greene's at 8:30am every Friday unless something comes up. C120, OleBob, ValeTroutFisherman, Blackwater, Cornbread have made appearances as well.

600 at the first clutch replacement. They adjusted the clutch and a complete service at 200 . They rebuilt the motor at 800 and I had them put in a new clutch since they had it broke down. The mihindra dealer was actually good to work with and helped me out but corporate was no help.

You may have got a good one, or buddy got a bad one. My buddy bought one about 5-6 years ago, not abused but it does see regular use, mostly bush hogging and using the front end loader to haul firewood, and it’s been back to the dealer several times for re-gen issues.

I have a 2538 that I bought about 8 years ago and absolutely love it. Its right at 40 horse but its in the compact line which at the time I wanted. I will say I wish I would have went a little larger but so far its fit my needs well. I have no complaints

Sucks to be him. The one I have is ten years old. Bucket and backhoe and I'm still on the original battery with zero issues. Now that I've mentioned a battery it'll need replacing next week, but still.

Kubota has sat atop the compact tractor market for decades. That doesn't mean they are perfect and you won't have any problems, nor does it mean that other brands aren't good, but I would say they are the standard to beat. Mahindra seems like a good brand for the value. My neighbor had a 35 HP one, and liked it. My opinion is if you can afford it, get a Kubota. If money is tight for what you want, don't be afraid to try the Mahindra. JD is fine, but when I was shopping, it was about the same price as Kubota for less features. I do think that Kubota overengineers their equipment, so if you are going to be hard on it, that gives you some extra protection.

Think about the number of hours you plan to use it, people don’t realize how little they use it.

I have bought one tractor new and it was right before the emissions tier. My last tractor bought was a used 2002 model with 5900 hours on it.

Personally I’d buy a used one. As a business I’d buy a used one. You can buy a heck of a lot better tractor than the stuff made today.

Well…. Here it goes. I have owned them all, brand new and used. I typically buy 1-2 tractors a year for my business. I am no authority but I have owned, used and bought dozens. I am also a numbers guy so I analyze them pretty hard from all angles.
1) The worst I have ever owned is John Deere. Literally, the last two new ones I bought were delivered DOA from dealer. The tech came out and could not get them off the truck. The dealer bought them back from me. In big AG they probably rule but not in the size you are looking. I had issues with every one I owned
2) Massey Ferguson- Older ones with non turbo Perkins are tough as hell but any older tractor may nickel and dime you to death, trust me. New ones suck and represent a very small percentage of the market in this part of the country
3) Mahindra can be a good option but be aware of models and engine manufacturers. The ones with Mitsubishi engines are pretty tough. They do have issues with fit and finish and plastic body parts.
4) Kioti- Good tractor but not without issues. In some areas they are superior to Kubota. In some areas they are not. New cost is cheaper than Kubota, resale is worse. Overall not quite as reliable as Kubota but worth a hard look
5) Kubota- They have gotten pricey as hell lately. They are the Toyota of tractors with similar resale. For anything short of serious ag where alot of weight is needed, they are number one for a reason. Problems? Sure they are not fullproof but they are as fullproof as you can buy. My entire fleet is now Kubota and has been for about 10 years except my antiques I keep around to play with.
So in short, my recommendation is Kubota or Kioti assuming you have good dealer support. Avoid chinese crap like LS, TYM and all that other junk.If you can get by with a basic 2 wheel drive, open station, gear tractor, I would find a clean Kubota or even a M-F with a 35 or 40 in the number. May take a little maintenance but a clean one will cost you 75% less than a new version by any other manufacturer.

Sort of. They reached a memorandum of understanding and said that the software and tools would be made available under "fair and reasonable terms". I don't have a dog in the fight but that price tag for the software is way up there. Deere essentially caved to this route to keep regulators out of it and still control most of the pricing.

I bought a new Mahindra 6065 w/loader last year. So far, I love that tractor. My only issue was a hydraulic leak right after purchase but the dealership sent a guy out here and fixed it promptly so I really can’t complain.
I use it mowing hay with a 616 disc mower and pull a square baler with it and it does every and anything I’ve asked of it. I mowed some brown top millet about 3 weeks ago that was as thick as hay gets and the tractor handled it fine.
I went from a 3032e JD to the 6065 so it’s really not fair to try and compare the two. I do know I paid roughly $25k less for the mahindra than I would have an equal JD.

I don't own modern tractors being mechanically inclined but I feel like it's the right thread to say that I have a 1965 M-F with the gasoline 145 continental 4 cylinder engine that drags 24" white oak logs 12' long up out of the creek carrying the front wheels off the ground like it doesn't know it's old. But if I had to buy new it would be kubota or John deer. I have put many hours on both
