Has anyone here ever fished that area through the Everglades of Florida? I'm planning to go in a couple weeks to hunt iguana's around Miami and fish my way from the east coast to the west coast. If anyone has fished that area I would appreciate any info you can offer. Looking to target peacock, snook and tarpon.

Not too familiar with the eastern part of where you are heading but from Tampa to Naples I've fished more places then I can remember. Snook can be found at most any salt water bridge crossing. Night time is good and many bridges are fisherman friendly and have a separated lane for fishing/pedestrians. Also many older bridges have been replaced have been repurposed as giant fishing piers. I do know that at least SW FLA is overloaded with Iguanas. I'll look for a pic I have of one when I was there last year. Post up some pics after you go!

Thanks. I have watched every utube video on canal fishing and have dropped pins on more places then I will have time to fish . Going with a guide for the iguana hunting to start and might buy an air gun there if I enjoy it. Birthday trip / day I could semi retire so trying to make the most out of it .

I just crossed alligator alley a few days ago. Everytime I do, I look at all the boat ramps along the highway and think about finding a place to rent a boat. There are quite a few boats out there. If you are talking about peacock bass, I've never been successful in catching them. My inlaws have some peacock bass in the ponds around their golf course in Jupiter. I'll be there in a few days to give it another try.

I'll be heading back to North Carolina on 2/20. I arrived in Florida on the 2/10. I'm in Naples right now but will be driving back across alligator alley to Jupiter on Monday. There is a possibility my trip could be extended since my MIL is in the hospital but probably just my wife will be staying here.

Back in the mid 70's my brother once took me Largemouth Bass fishing on the Seminole Indian Reservation located off the Tamiami Trail. All I remember is fishing near dikes where water was being discharged from 6 ft. pipes which stirred up the bait fish & he would often land Lunker Bucketmouths. He would also Snook fish off bridges around Pompano Beach & Ft. Lauderdale as already mentioned. I don't think Iguanas, Oscars, Peacock Bass, Boa Constrictors & Anacondas had yet invaded FL. @ that time. Brother was into catching snakes in the Everglades until a Cottonmouth put him in the hospital. Fortunately they did not have to amputate his finger afterall. The night I fished w/ him while driving back home @ night to Lighthouse Point numerous Pygmy Rattlers were out on the Tamiami Trail asphalt getting heat. I stopped & let him catch one to put in a shoebox. I drew the line though when he spotted a Diamondback & wanted to stop & catch it. South Fl. is very unique & unusual as was my middle Brother.

Well that's off the bucket list. I spent Monday fishing the trail near Miami and caught a lot of myans cichlids, LM bass , bream , maw mouth and crappie. Tuesday I hunted iguana with a guide in the canal's around ft Lauderdale and that was a blast. They are tough and I didn't think they could take a 25 cal pellet but if it wasn't a head shot they would get away. Killed plenty and had a lot get away. Wednesday we fished the trail from Miami to Port of the islands catching Mayans and Oscars with the normal freshwater fish along the way. Thursday morning was spent trying for snook but the glades are in a drought so I couldn't access the snook without a boat so I opted for fishing for peacock bass. Missed two snook in a place I wasn't expecting them. Hooked one large pc bass that broke me off. Caught a lot of LM bass. Decided to hit the local water hole and hung out with the locals. Highlight of the trip was a birthday night at the hard Rock hotel and casino. Lots of eye candy and cold beer . I lost money but the wife broke even and I only had a slight headache. Great trip if anyone wants to go I will be glad to drop some pins .

That sounds like heck of good time all way around, glad it went well aside from the snook. And happy late Bday

In my earlier post I said the "Seminole Indian Reservation located off the Tamiami Trail". But actually I misspoke, it was Alligator Alley, I-75, that crosses Fl. east to west that bisects the Seminole Indian Reservation. I fished there twice w/ my Largemouth Bass/ Cottonmouth snake catching brother.
