I just stopped by the orchard on the way to pick up a pup in MS and there is an inch. This is the first time I’ve paused the irrigation since the first week of April because of at least an inch of rain or more.

The high that sits over the SW Atl commonly referred to as the Bermuda High is getting into all time record strength territory...as it drifts west and east it will have big impacts on our weather...when it expands west it will shut off the onshore flow and put us back in the very hot and dry pattern, when it shifts east it puts us in the onshore flow and we get what we have had the last few days....the other big caveat is it will be the main steering factor in the tracks of future storms...these are more semi permanent type features, its always there to some degree and how and where it sets up will impact us a lot later on when the canes start coming. There is currently a large volume of dust from the Sahara mitigating development which is typical this time of year that usually begins to fade in Aug...

This is the latest run of the GFS showing precip totals over the next 16 days...

I have posted the following link to CoCoRaHS before. It's a website where people across the country record rainfall each day. Anyone can go to the maps to view the results. The typical record time is 7:00am. The map for today's readings for yesterday's rain is very interesting because of all the variability in the recorded rainfall readings today. There is barely a drop recorded west of Siler City. Someone recorded 0.01" in Siler City and two people record over 2" in Pittsboro. I recorded 2.38" and someone a few miles to the west of me recorded 1.62. There were pockets of heavy rain.

My weather station shows It rained 0.59 yesterday. Doesn't seem like it rained that hard but did rain for several hours. I may put the old manual tube gauge back out for reference next time

The rain has finally started here! Supposed to get thunderstorms and a lot of rain this weekend. Possibly also next week. Going to batten down the hatches and do some reading, cooking, cleaning, and relaxing. Going to enjoy watching the rain fall and the winds blow (as long as they don't blow the camper over 😂). Hope the rain fills up the marsh, which has dried up completely. Hope the flooding on the roads won't be too bad, but we'll see.

I’m all late and wrong. But we got over 8” of rain in 2 days. Garden looks the best it has so far. Wife’s ducklings are realizing they like water and learning how to quack. Yesterdays heat and humidity was hellacious. Today not so bad. Have I mentioned I need to go fishing

Could have sworn I heard there would be a record number of storms this year. And a bunch being major and making landfall ….all in the name of Global Warming and stuff…..

It could still happen, Sept and Oct froggy hurricane months sometimes

Best rain here in weeks right now and the ground is still dry under the shrubs. Hopefully it will get with the program and do some serious raining soon.

Monsoon season is back with a vengeance. I am on my way home now and the wife said from what she can tell it looks like there’s at least 4 inches in the rain gauge just from the past two hours. I had a feeling as soon as I started my paternity leave that this weather would start back. We are going to pay for the little two month drought.

Going to Lake James tomorrow through next Sunday for family vacation. Figures that after months of dry weather it's going to rain and thunderstorm nearly every day next week. Oh, and my dog who will be boarded is terrified of tstorms so he'll be doped up I'm sure.

What a roller coaster ride. From Sahara dry to Amazon forest wet, can’t seem to catch a break this summer. Buddy just called and said it dumped another 2.5” overnight in Pamlico Co. That makes 7” since mid week. Burned up some fuel running the pump, why couldn’t this rain wait til it was time to put the boards in! Guess we’ll have a hurricane next month and really F things up…..🙄

ended up with 4.3 inches in the gauge yesterday afternoon alone. My pool was really low and now it’s almost over the sidewall…..having to drain water as we speak.
