Storing/hauling long lines

Anyone have a system or advice for hauling and storing long lines ? We have been using slot bags and stuffing the paracord in the bottom of the slot before the decoy. That system works and is tangle free 9 out of 10 times but its tedious and time consuming. I've seen guys on bigger boats use commercial size trash cans but we dont have that kind of room on my boat. I have been thinking about those collapsable yard waste/leaf baskets but hesitate to because I'm afraid the lines may tangle. What are you guys using to hauling long lines ? Every year when we start tossing and picking up we say, " we gotta come up with something better next year" and then the season goes out and we forget about it until we start again the next year. We did add a decoy mat this past season to our spread and have been very happy with it.

well, I'm out then as we used trash cans for the longlines,,, ran a 24' SeaArk and had a bunch of cans (I'd likely lie if I tried to remember how many) and the layout boat in front,,,and we'd both ride behind the console, which was WAY close to the motor,,,

lots of dead birds,,,,

This is what I always used and it worked like a dream. Used thick line on them with clips to the mainline and always left them connected to the main line and rarely had any tangles. Just pulled them up and each one of these bags held a line. We would put out anywhere from 3 dozen to 7 dozen depending on how many I thought we needed. If this website is legit this is a steal for these bags.

I meant to mention if you google “ryobi trash can” or “ryobi leaf bag” you will get a TON of different options if that type of bag from all different makers. That wasn’t the case back when I needed to buy them.

he's likely wanting to leave the decoys attached to the line,,, makes it more efficient putting them out and picking them up,,,

we ran 11 lines,,,, 5 on each side of the layout and 1 as the guidelines,,,, and now I remember, it was 11 trash cans,,, one for each set of line and decoys

used to have a blast with it,,, been a few years now

I suppose.

I guess those Christmas light storage holders would make short work.

I use tarred mainline and eliminated the droppers. Mainline > tuna clip > fishing snap > decoy. Can’t run the boat through it and the dog has to learn to go around, but setup and pickup is much faster. Some of my lines go into trashcans, some go into slot bags, and one goes to a mesh decoy bag.

Got a pic of that rig ?

How they’re stored or how I have them attached to the line? I’ve got one more line I need to setup in the next few days and can take some photos as I’m doing it
Don't go to any special effort for me over it. If you're tinkering with them and think to snap a picture or two that would be great. It sounds like an efficient and simple rig.

Several guys I hunt with use the slotted bags thing, works great with extra large slots and 2 guys that know how to sync up. Before that, I used droppers with tuna clips, rolled the mainline on a small garden hose reel. But the collapsible Ryobi bags work great too, I like them a lot.

Not to say running decoys straight to a static line won’t work well for some, it obviously does. I’m just not keen on letting anybody’s dog (let alone mine) pick up birds, especially cripples, in that type of set up. Additionally could run into an issue if your not so reliable motor cuts out while picking up gear. A tangled line around your lower unit when power is needed is not what you want on a cold, windy day on the open water.

Short dropper lines with tuna clips. All decoys are put in a yard waste bag and the main line goes on an extension cord reel.
Same

Ran a board from the front deck to the CC and drop the decoys in there as a decoy box, travel with a net pulled over the box, holds a ton of decoys and keeps most of the floor clear.

Since we’re usually on big open water I don’t let the dog chase cripples, we do that solely from the boat, the dog can go once it’s dead.

As far as getting line around the prop, I had that issue even when I was running 36” droppers, turn the motor just the wrong way and it’ll wrap up a dropper line and the mainline anyways. So I had quit driving through the decoys anyways, and space my main lines far enough apart that I can drive the boat between them if I need to.

I use a Cuban Yoyo with paracord or tarred line along with short droppers to longline clips.

Spiral decoy bag so I just drop the decoys in as I wind in the lines and unclip them.
