Spring/Summer 2025 weather thread

It will be extremely rare for there not to be below freezing temperatures here over the next two weeks. In the last ten years one spring I had potato plants frost burnt level with the ground in May. The dogwood trees are blooming heavy right now and that seems a little early to me though age might just be catching up with my memory bank. They always remind me of a saying I have heard repeated by many fishermen around here that when the dogwood is blooming the crappie are heading to the banks, time to go fishing.

We had an outside wedding on 4-7-07. 30* and 20mph winds. Everyone was about to freeze to death.

I remember one back about ten or twelve years ago the first weekend in May. It was down right nipply, luckily they had a big tent with some heaters.

They declare a Weather Alert Day to try and get you to pay attention but by doing it so often with no real danger, they are telling people to not pay attention to them. It really is not hard to understand.
Another Little Boy Crying Wolf yesterday! Been talking about Sunday/Monday for almost a week and thankfully almost nothing happened in the Triad

I have no complaints about the weather today. Blue Jays woke me up this morning screaming in the bushes outside the window, wrens and sparrows singing outside the kitchen while I made and drank coffee. I want to enjoy these temperatures being able to keep some windows open as long as possible before the air conditioning needs to be trapped inside. My wife is already talking about needing to fire it up about Thursday, Friday seeing high 80s in the forecast. I have eyedrops and a roll of toilet paper to handle the pollen no trouble at all to get this glorious weather. Happy days for sure right now.

What’s the opinion of this 89 year cycle he’s talking about? Any validity to it?

Not sure of the validity of it but we seem to finally be coming out of the decade long flood season. I hope the farmers get what they need but I certainly am not sad about it. We have had the best weather we have had in over 10 years in the past 6-8 months.

We need more and consistent. I bought seed and chemical to plant corn but can’t get the weather to cooperate with guaranteed rain to put out the pre-emergent. It’s so late now, it will have to wait until next year.

^^^^^^. Old-timers alway said to look for a cold snap when the black berries bloom . They called it blackberry winter . Should be in the next couple of weeks .
Nice little cool snap, blackberry brambles in full bloom. Tis blackberry winter for sure around here👍

Warmest RDU April on record per WRAL. A heavily biased CBC channel.

Didn't seem that warm to me.

@DENC or @shaggy, is that the same for other localities, or nearby states?

Thanks.

Ncdowneast has been banned so he wont be back on i guess.

I didn't think April was that warm and that seems suspicious to me. I haven't seen any other climatology reports from other areas but I'll look around

I guess being wrong too many times.

We are hoping for dry this year, so get your gardens planted. We need no rain for two months because pecan trees are very overloaded. Hopefully they will shed more than 65% of their current crop, but it looks like rain in the forecast.

All these old timer varieties here still have pollinators hanging on them. Those grafted trees that you are growing already have pecans starting on them?

Need the rain. The people in Boiling spring lakes have to be worried about this fire still growing. It's raining ash here at the house and I'm 10 miles away from it.

We have been pumping ground fire for a month on the sr9 fire in onslow. We need a tropical system something fierce.

Some rain will help out, but depending on how much fire has gotten into the organic soils, it's going to take a lot to keep it from smoldering and reburning...
Now they need to go start it in the south side and burn it to the original fire line. That bay is long over due a fire . It's the thickest bay I have ever crawled through and I have been in a bunch. Id venture to say I'm the only person in it in 50 years. If they would burn it all they could probably add a few new developments that the county desperately needs.
