Spinning wing decoys... yes or no?

Interested in getting a spinning wing decoy. I see a lot of negative reviews about them flaring ducks. Are they worth it or just stick to my Ripplers?

I used to run a jerk rig , especially later in the season. Spinners worked ok for me in the early season but I think they get wise to them. Last week of the season I’d run a two decoy jerk rig with no other decoys.

Def get one. Can work great. Get one with a remote. Can turn on to get their attention and then off when they are in close. Or just off when you dont want it on anymore without going and getting it. Or back on when you see some teal or divers that tend to react better to a spinner most of the time than big ducks that will shy away at times, esp as the season goes on.

Do you guys think having any of those butt up decoys really matter (to simulate them feeding)? Someone stated it would be better if I included them in my spread.

I’ve seen a lot of pages from the herters catalog while hunting but couldn’t tell you they really helped or hurt. Those butt up ones can be more difficult to see though, and lend themselves to getting shot more often when swatting.

I don’t know that the butt up feeders help much. I think they look better to the hunter than they do to the ducks. If I was going to have a butt up feeder is spend the money and get a pulsater. I’ve hunted with guys that use those and they put out a lot motion.

From my first successful hunt. I believe I was trying to put down a crippled drake. But know I'm concerned about spending 130$+ on an electronic decoy.

If I’m diver hunting I’ll put it out every time. If I’m puddler hunting I’ll put it out at first light or if it’s overcast.

They wouldn't get clogged in flooded timber/ fields?

The guys I was with use them in timber but they did put them in open water. Just don't throw it out where the water is dirty like in grass and make sure the water is deep enough it doesn’t suck stuff off the bottom and you’d be fine.
