South River

Finally fished another body of water on my "list" with my kayak. The South River, that runs through Cumberland, Sampson and Bladen Counties. Water was low and fairly swift. Had to fish it hard to get these, but they are nice ones. One is a bonafide "tiddy bream" that put up one heck of a fight. I was wondering if it was a bass at first. All caught on crickets. Couldn't get a bite on any artificials.
Next will be either the Lumber River or Lake Waccamaw.

Blackwater

Twelve Pointer
Grew up in the Lumber and South Rivers. Started going to South River with my Dad when I was 10 and have fished it from Parkersburg on down into the Black. Members of my family have cabins on the Sampson side down below Ennis Bridge. It used to be great for redbreast but the infernal flathead cats have worked on the panfish in the lower part but some can still be found up around Hell Town and on up from there. They tend to like that faster water anyway where the river narrows. Once you hit Broadwater you'll rarely see a robin.
