Set it back for bills or our next emergency ( home, car). My wife's been out of work since August 2018, from a head on car accident. Waiting on Social Security disability approval and lawsuit against Liberty Mutual Short term/ Long term disability, them Sons-a-b#$&h's have denied her LTD since December 2018, owe us about $50k to date. LM has done everything they could to lie, deny, and cherry pick info not to pay.
Sorry I went on a tangent. She is 5 weeks post back surgery too. Doing better.

Are they now saying that you will get money if as long as you dont make over 150k a year(married filling jointly)?

Booze, tattoos, women, weed, and lottery tickets. If there's anything left, I'm gonna waste it
JK folks, I'm actually closely watching oil prices and plan on filling my furnace barrel, when I think prices are close to the bottom. Lots of heating oil companies offer spring and summer specials. Luckily I let it get real low this past winter. Think about it folks. When is the last time you filled up this cheaply?

This time last year I paid $2.59 gallon for diesel. This year $2.39. Not really a huge chunk of change.

I budget at $4 a gallon anyway.

Sort of. Married people making less than $150k will get the full $2400 ($1200 per person). Payments will decrease until you reach $198k. Over $198k, you will not receive anything. The decrease is linear. For every $1000 you are over $150,000, your stimulus check will decrease by $50. The numbers for single people are full $1200 payment up to $75k and no payment above $99k with the same $50 decrease for every $1000 above $75k.

Looks like it phases out. 150k jointly/75k singly gets the full amount, and then you lose $50 per $1000 earned after that, so completely phasing out at $198/$99k.

EDIT: I see Homebrew was working on that...

What really bugs me is when you have this single mother living in govt housing with her snap card and 5 children by 5 different sperm donars receiving 1200 plus 500 for each kid.....she hasnt contributed to the economy in years ....then add in the aunt and grandmother that will claim the same 5 kids.....got to be a better way to distribute.....

The checks will be based on 2018 and 2019 tax returns. If three people are claiming the same kids, then this is an IRS tax return review problem. Maybe IRS's budget shouldn't have been gutted over the years so it could detect such fraud.

Thats a fair assessment. you could also argue that the amount for poor people amounts to windfall amount compared to someone makin 75k. At the end of the day, these handouts only goose things in short order. Let's be honest, 1200 maybe covers rent in most areas, 1.5 months possibly. As much as I hate bailouts, I'd rather boeing be around and employing people in Charleston, than handing out "free" money, which is fee anyways and runs out very quickly regardless.
If you do get some, pay off debt would be my advice.

I was horrified to find we will likely get a check. We have no BUSINESS getting a check! We will all likely need to put it away to pay the tax burden that is going to be put on all of us from this.......

  • Each eligible adult will receive up to $1,200 from the government.
  • For every child in a given household, the amount of the total check would go up by $500.
  • However, there are income limits on receiving the stimulus check. If your adjusted gross income is less than $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers, then you'll get the full amount. For every $100 you earn above those limits, though, the payment drops by $5. That means that for those with no children and income levels above $99,000 for singles and $198,000 for joint filers, no stimulus check would come. Those with incomes between those levels would receive a reduced stimulus check payment.

We plan to just put it in savings. My family and I have been very fortunate and we really don't need it so just put it to the side for taxes and emergencies. If any is spent it'll probably be donated to our church.

After some thought, I was going to Asheville to spend some $$, but apparently the thread that had all the good advice on it recently is gone 🤷🏼‍♂️😐

Surely you remember when Obama tripled the IRS workforce and weaponized them against conservatives? The IRS is geared up for collecting money from people who make it, not punishing people who abuse the entitlements.

The more I think about it....writing every household a check....sounds like straight up socialism.

The government comes to the rescue by paying everyone’s bills? And then leaving the bill for the taxpayer, or worse, just creating it.

I just got a text from a friend in Minneapolis..........gasoline is <$1.00.

Of course the drawback is, if it gets too low they'll stop producing to get it back up.
