This is a great thread. I've got an old Model 1895 Winchester that I would like to equip with a sling. The step-by-step photos of the buttstock installation is really helpful. However, I would really like to see step-by-step photos of the slip knot (like is on the Montana sling) for the front of the sling. Do these exist anywhere?
Thanks
OK.
Thanks for looking for them.
For some reason the first pics of the adjustment part came back up. At least on my phone. I didn’t re load them. Dunno.

I'm glad this thread was revived. I had forgotten about it. I never got around to making a sling for my Winchester 1894. It turned 100 years old this year so I have plans to take it hunting.

Wow 100 years! Thats pretty cool! The marlin I just recently purchased was manufactured 1995, not quite as old but as long as it aint a 2008 or newer im happy.
I don't have any homemade but this one doesn't look hard to duplicate.....View attachment 50430View attachment 50431View attachment 50432
I'm thinking you'd have to oil it and work it first, especially around the butt. Lacing helps....The trick with them is getting a thin/supple enough leather to make those folds.

What weight or thickness leather straps do you tend to use? I was going to buy some 9/10oz strap but am afraid that might be too thick
