Show us your home made gun slings

Here is one I've been making some for most of my rifles. There is no metal or plastic to scratch the gun except the swivel. The knot is slid to adjust length.

1" strap
Three cuts spaced evenly, no more than 3-1/2" long offset 1/4"
Put on a swivel
Twist loops and thread the end through the loops
Put on another swivel and sew
Oil

I have a paracord one I meant to take a picture of this weekend for you.

Made several but old school military type that use the leather like yours then a few rawhide laces to tie and adjust.

But being that snow time is around the corner I plan to build a few more holsters and other gear. That was what I did last year on snow days.

I've made a few more. My stitching sucks so I did these with no stitching for the top swivel. There is no hardware other than the swivel, and no thread to fail. These should last a long time if a yearly, after season application of neatsfoot oil is applied

Nice sling, 7mm-08. I need something for my Winchester 1894. I had found a company that did really nice ones but they don't make one for a gun with a curved metal butt.

This should work. It was wet formed and stretched so it could be fitted to any stock.

Came up with this on accident when what I was trying to do didn't work.

Mostly just trial and error. DIY and YouTube are good to pick something up here and there. Mostly if you can get a good look at something you can replicate it or alter it to your needs.

Here is another. I oiled this one first. I think I prefer to soak the end on water and fit the sling like I did on the first one. After it is fitted and dries out oil can be added.
I begin with four cuts in the one inch strap. Each cut is shorter that the first. You have to fit it yourself and decide the sizes and distances based on your gun and how much the leather stretches as you work it. You need to put it on and take it off for each new hole as you guestamate the size to be cut.

Pass the sling through the large hole and insert the rear stock.

On and off as many times as it takes to stretch the leather very tight and make additional cuts to get it to sit as low as you want. This one sits a little low for my preference. 3-5" from the buttplate would be good.

Then decide if the corner need adjustment. This is actually when you first cut the second cut. When wet forming first, the kinks in the leather like at the top of the stock are easier to form out. This will eventually break in and flatten out, but it can be molded out with water before the oil is applied.

When your happy with that you make your third cut.

Again you guestamate the fourth cut to lock the pigtail down.

Everything should be loosely fitted together now. Tug of war begins. Grab the pigtail with some pliers and a handful of sling and pull against each other until you snug things up. The plier will mark the leather but your going to trim the pigtail anyway.
Working and shifting the leather it is very tight, and by design should only tighten itself as pressure is applied to the sling. If the leather is not stretched while making it, the sling may loosen over time as more play is created. Already by now the kink at the top is beginning to lay flatter.

Nice series of photos. Is it necessary to remove the stock or did you just find it easier? Since my Winchester is a takedown model, I could just take it apart.

On this model if you cut the hole big enough to get the receiver and lever through the stock will slide right on out the hole. The older ones at least just have one tang screw and the stock slips off.
