Meh.. I rail against the cancel culture on a regular basis.. this is no different.. I love sports and could care less about their politics so I ignore the political and watch the sport.

I don't agree with a cancel culture, but the politics have moved from their private personal ideas, to pregame antics, and now to expressing political views during live play. And the teams and league are preaching with statements on the jerseys and the field . I can handle an athlete expressing their views outside of the game, but when the politics becomes part of the show, it's harder to ignore.

So you'll pitch a fit and talk to the manager of a Harris Teeter that posts a no guns sign and boycott that local business....but you have no care in the world about supporting multi billion dollar organizations that promote politics and politicians that would happily take away the 2nd amendment altogether if they could.

Logic.

We had a thread about dead to me businesses not too long ago. The selective outrage is comical to me.. If you only do business with those who agree with you politically you will not do much business. I don't boycott groceries if the Harris Teeter puts up the sign.. I tell the Harris Teeter that I am going to shop elsewhere.. there is no elsewhere for the highest level of football.

I enjoy sports. Some people enjoy music or movies. I don't buy tickets to the NFL games nor do I buy merchandise but I am paying for the TV contract whether I like it or not.. and so are you if you have a TV that has any form of cable/sat/streaming or if you do business anywhere that has TVs with those things so I watch the competition. I am not going to apologize for it.

There are far bigger things in this world to worry about than the political stance of a sports league. If however, it gets to the point that it detracts from the entertainment value then I will entertain myself in other ways.. NASCAR has seen that over the last decade or so. they put out a suck product so i stopped watching.

There's a wee bit difference than NFL and retail stores. While some stores are displaying large banners on location, for a large part they are not. NFL is blasting it over and over and over. They've beat the horse to death, buried it, unburied it and beating it again.

For what it's worth, I will still patronize some establishments that have a different political view. It's when they prominently overwhelm you with the propaganda that I will turn away from.

There's the wee difference.

I might be paying for the tv contract because I have Dish Network but the NFL isn't going to get their ratings from me.....Im done until something changes and I really wish it would change because I love pro football, but I doubt it will.

I did see something on the net about CBS saying they werent going to talk about social justice during games. I think they are already feeling the pressure from the reduced ratings.

If you just wanna watch competition at the pro level there is always the CFL[emoji14]

I have no problem patronizing businesses with differing political views than mine. I DO have a problem when they try to ram their political views down my throat.
The NFL is doing the latter.
I even heard that a Hispanic Panthers employee was fired....because he supports Trump.
Thanks, but I can get by just fine without the NFL in my life.

dont be so sure. :)
yesterday i came across a Canadien soccer league game in some Godforsaken place you never heard of.
The entire field and empty stands were ordained with blm banners. In Canada. Why? I have no clue.

Given the player culture of the cfl, I suspect they would be more likely than a soccer league to promote the message.

Tipmoose will tell you that I have been an avid Washington Redksins fan. Well this year I finally threw in the towel. It's not enough that Dan Snyder has ruined the team but now they are selling out and changing their name and going along with all the "woke" nonsense. I canceled my DirectTV and NFL Sunday Ticket as well as my NFL Game Pass. I'm done.

Yep. I will vouch for GiC. He's a lifelong REDSKINS fan. Good to see you again Greg.

I agree. Sports associations are paid proportionally to tv ratings. Ratings are based on viewership. Just because I pay a monthly subscription fee to Spectrum has no bearing on any ratings except for the programming I actually watch. Some may not see it that way and continue to show their support for the different venues by allowing their TVs to be included in viewership rating numbers.

I saw that on the news. At first I thought, Ehhh, that's where we are as a country. But as I thought about it further, that is pretty troubling...

To be accurate, it sounds like it was more of an ultimatum given to him as a contract employee than a direct firing.

This was not a situation where he denounced the sacred BLM. I don't believe there were any insensitive remarks, or forbidden words used. Just a hispanic Panthers Radio announcer with 10 years of broadcasting for the Panthers who repeatedly tweeted in favor of Trump on his private accounts. We are now at the point in society, where simply advocating support for the President of the United States is a social crime worthy of termination.

As stated somewhere on this site.... reminds me of what was going on in 1933 Berlin.
Fired, attacked, burned out, or killed if you don't assimilate to a political stance.
Shameful it is being repeated.

I want to know why we are allowing it to happen and when will we make a stand or if we will. We should not be able to be fired for supporting a political person of our choosing.

You only get fired if you support the “wrong” side....

Assuming you live in NC you live in a right to work state, and therefore you can be fired for any reason or no reason at all, so long as all are treated equally and you are not fired for being a member of a protected group.

Employers, employees and the free market are better for that being the case.
