Serve you meat? Would you like a vegetable? (K&W closing)

The one in Carolina Mall in Concord was the go to for my family growing up. Parents, 3 siblings and myself could eat a good meal for a reasonable price.
As a NCSU student the one at Cameron Village was where we went after we finished up a cold wet landscaping job to get a warm and somewhat nutritious meal at a good price.
When I started working in Salisbury, 20 years ago, still had decent food for the money and I ate there once or twice a month with co-workers. Always funny to see some of the Salisbury gazillionaires eating there. Covid closed it down for good.
Out of nostalgia I stopped at the one in Burlington a few months back. Was dirty, food was bad, service was very poor, and prices were crazy.

Surprised any of them made it past covid, and not surprised the last ones are closing their doors. Lots of waste on a cafeteria line serving model. Prices for food, labor and a general lack of folks interested in working in that setting hammered them hard.

Man I use to love their turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes and green beans. And that chocolate pie :-) Lots of good memories with family and friends.

I was never really a fan but my wife's grandparents loved that place. Her grandpa got dementia before he passed and would take things from restaurants until we figured it out... silverware, ketchup, salt/pepper shakers, or anything else he could fit in his pockets. My wife jokingly said yesterday that he may have stolen so much that he put them out of business.

I use to eat there with my family and especially my grandma. She would take us there when we come to mow. The one in Winston on Peter's Creek was great. Last time years ago when I went i knew it was over.

That was the after church place when I was a kid. When I was in rookie school for FD we would go at lunch quite a bit, quick and affordable. Could get a meat, 3 veggies and dessert, roll on back to doing whatever drills were for that day.
Been off and on over the years since, was consistent, could always count on good dessert selection!!

I haven’t been to one in ages. My grandmothers in Greensboro loved it, I cannot remember where it was. When we would visit, that was a staple.

My MIL & FIL loved the one on Peter’s Creek in WS. I have good childhood memories of K&W, but I think the last time I was in the Perter's Creek location was back in ‘96 before we moved to WNC.

As someone else posted, time marches on!

My favorite thing at K&W wasn't available at all of them. Breakfast. As a kid we went sometimes and I was always amazed at the cooks pumping out egg orders while you were going down the line.

Ate at one many times. Mainly Fayetteville(wm) and Myrtle Beach. They had a pretty good breakfast, too. If I had lived close to one, I would have eaten there more often.

Cleanliness went down hill bad in the last several years at the one where I live. I used to eat there a good bit for lunch with an old timer from work. He liked the food, and I enjoyed his friendship so that’s what I did. He’s since retired and passed on and I haven’t been back.

We have Picadiily down here, good food and service, just too busy to stop most times but about once a month we stop in...

As a former officer I had to quit eating there years ago because there were too many “cooks” I knew professionally.

Used to get a kick out of my mom having me meet her for lunch there. She always said look for her car. Yeah a white Buick or white caddy at the Kane and Walker… like looking for needle in a needle stack.

It's a small world. I'm from Cumberland, between Hope Mills and Fayetteville & now considered HM. Several generations on my father's side.
I grew up eating at K&Ws in the Bordeaux Shopping Center, off Village Drive. Probably once a week. I loved the country style steak, gravy & rice! Paired with Mac & cheese and something green that Mom enforced. And chocolate or coconut cream pie if I ate my greens. I remember the breakfast there, too. Good stuff!

I enjoyed K&W. Been a long time since I last went but Chicken and onions or baked spaghetti, broccoli with cheese, sweet potatoes, a roll and a tea for around $9 was a deal.

You are correct. Moose was there, Johnnie was there. He made name tags. I think that was where we wore out our welcome with the game calls. We only met there once cause it closed after that. A couple years later we met at K&S/D&S in Cary. After that we moved to the more permanent location of Golden Corral.

BREAAD!! Any bread?

I’m so old, I remember it being in Carolina Mall in Concord
Years ago we went to that location a couple of times a month at least. There was a woman who worked there for years, and she was the bread lady. We referred to her as bread. She always said " Bread? Serve you?" She could have passed for Beetlejuice's sister with dark ringed sunken eyes, but she was always there.

You’re right, someone brought in one of the electronic predator calls (that seemed high tech at the time). I think it might have been BM/Avery Creek.

The older I get, the more I liked it!! I hated it when I was young and my grandparents wanted to eat there every Sunday for lunch after church. A little sad to see it go.

Serve you a meat? Would you like a vegetable?

When I read this, I could literally hear it in my head. LOL
