Savage 340

I haven’t checked with ECU Pirate yet but anyone else ever installed a scope on a Savage 340 bolt action 30-30. This is the gun I killed my first deer with years ago back when it was just iron sights. Since then my dad had a guy mount a scope on it. The mount looks beat to fit and I am thinking about an upgraded mount for it. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately the choices for scope base/mounts for the Savage/Stevens 325, 340, 840, 6400, etc. is very limited. The only one that I know of that are available are the B-Square #14600 which is a one piece base plus rings and the 2-piece Weaver #48401 base plate and either the 49340 or 49350 side mount rings. I've installed both on Customers rifles over the years and both will work fine. Personally I liked the B-Square mount/ring system much better (not only looked better but was 1-piece and more rigid).\, so that is what I put on my grandson's Savage/Forest 6400 in 30-30 Winchester. Numrich Arms offers a blued steel 1-piece side mount/rings as well, but I don't know anything first hand about it to tell you. Also Sun Optics list a side plate mount and Trinity list a side base mount with rings, but again I do not have any first hand knowledge of these mounts/rings to tell you, other than the Trinity looks an awful lot like the B-Square system and the Sun Optics doesn't have rings so you get to use the Weaver/Picatinny rings of your choice.

That does look better. That really puts the scope way up there though.

That looks exactly like the base/ring mount offered by Numrich Arms.

It may be that the gunsmith had to ream or lap the ring to make them fit correctly on the tube. It also looks like your 340 might have been drilled and tapped by a gunsmith somewhere along the line because the mount screw holes are well below the gas deflection port. From what I've seen from factory drilled & tapped mount screw holes, they are pretty much in line with the gas deflection port. That may be why the mount you have on there now looks to be lower than the one that is on mine. It is actually not to bad for me as far as the height goes for cheek weld and eye alignment. But for my 9 year old grandson, I put on a Tourbon cheek riser to get it where he shoot it comfortably.

Yeah I can see where he cut away some wood on the inside of the stock so that the bottom of the mount would fit inside. I found some longer screws that would work so that now I at least have the scope securely in place. If I run into any issues I will hit you back up. Thanks for your help!

Hello, i recently inherited a Savage 340 in 22 Hornet from my dad. I've been trying to find a Sun Optic or B-Square side mount but nobody seems to have them in stock and they are discontinued from what i can tell. i came across your post and wonder by chance if you might have one left over or know some where else i could try? Any assistance would be appreciated!
Thank you

I got mine off eBay. There were quite a few and that was a couple months ago.
