Saltwater Catch Thread - 2024

1718 and a Mexican chocolate stout
That sounds awful
We will be there all next week! @Redneck Rocker Dude hope y’all get into the drum!
No drum, saw a filleted carcass but Sunday and yesterday the blues were so thick the drum never had a chance. We caught a few blues today but it was a lot slower. Steven did talk to the guy who caught a 54” drum sound side one last day week so there are a couple around. The storm blowing in Thursday/Friday will bring them in I’ll betcha.

Fished 30-40 miles all morning following a warm eddy coming off the gulfstream hoping it was holding dolphinfish, kings or maybe a wahoo. Lots of blue water and grass but all we could find were albies and houndfish.

Pushed back to within 5 miles of the beach to try and get a few Spanish to salvage the day. Got 2 nice ones for the freezer, and a young mahi 2-3 miles off the beach. Tagged and released to be eaten at a later date.
That little fella is lost....

Oak Island. Decent amount of blue fish. Biggest 19 inches. 1 spanish, few lady fish and some stingrays. And the fish of the trip a nice red drum for my Dad. We thought it was another stingray until right before we landed it.

Caught and filleted a blue cat today that had acorns in its belly. At first I thought it was little clams but once I cleaned them off and cut them open, they were damn sure acorns. I wasn’t curious about what it had been eating . But when I grabbed it to make my first cut, acorns started popping out on the table. Regardless, got a family party coming up and mom requested smoked fish dip . I think I’ll hold off on the acorn garnish

They’ll be on your corn pile next

Yes sir. Much better. Going on the 20th to take care of pops. Got a great support team with me and equipment. Thank you for your support. We’re gonna get him squared away.

A few pictures from the other day. It was slow, but I did manage to catch a handful of nice fish. Released them all, but I'm getting the itch for some fried Trout so the next ones may not be as fortunate. ;)

I'm guessing the trout are biting in nags head at the bridge going back to Manteo. There were at least 30 people shoulder to shoulder yesterday when I went by. 0% chance id get caught in that mess
