A night trip to the dock with a dozen shrimp and ended up with 7 trout and 2 drum. Went to set the hook on fish #10 and missed ending up with an amazing birds nest in the middle of the rod. Threw the last 2 shrimp in to fend for themselves and went to bed.

Today was interesting for sure. Damn tide chart I looked at was way wrong. I wanted to be there at the peak low tide so I could fish 30’ of water at the end of that shoal. But we were there already so hell with it. Used shrimp to catch spot and got a buncha pogies with the cast net. Had some crab as well. Wasn’t trying to catch anything but a redfish. Ended up with an undersized flounder on a live pogie , I lost a nice speck right at the shoreline(damn them head shakes) on cut spot, and the Mexicans that showed up and fished with us caught a nice bluefish on pogie. . One could argue if there’s reds there then those others would be too. But I hadn’t thought about it and everyone I’ve talked to there only wants rockfish. So it was a neat day. As the sun started going down and all the walkable shoreline was getting submerged I looked at a different tide chart and it was spot on lol. Gonna make adjustments and go back soon.

Edit: also caught a 18” needlefish that hit the pogie so hard that it ended up hooking itself 5” below its mouth in its belly

Fished 30-40 miles all morning following a warm eddy coming off the gulfstream hoping it was holding dolphinfish, kings or maybe a wahoo. Lots of blue water and grass but all we could find were albies and houndfish.

Pushed back to within 5 miles of the beach to try and get a few Spanish to salvage the day. Got 2 nice ones for the freezer, and a young mahi 2-3 miles off the beach. Tagged and released to be eaten at a later date. IMG_7683.jpeg

Fun evening at the same spot. Grey and overcast with a little breeze. Felt great. Wife landed her first flounder (little dink) but she was stoked . Until I told her to grab it and get the hook out. But she did it. We then proceeded to catch 8 more in quick succession. Anywhere from 12-15”. Size limit is 17.5. We caught ‘em on Carolina rigs with live bait and Carolina rigs with cut bait. We caught em on dropper rigs with live and/or cut bait. We caught em on flounder rigs with the buck tail, beads, and little spoons. As we were leaving we seen some Spanish mackerel so I guess that’s on the short list. Have yet to catch or see anyone else catch a drum yet. Caught a whopper of a hickory shad with several dozen pogies in the cast net. Fun day. Weather depending, going crabbing tomorrow with one of my more seasoned crabbing buddies.

Glad you didn’t tell her to lip it like a bass 🤣. Y’all been having a good time this year fishing and crabbing.

I considered it lol. Yeah man we’ve been trying to get it in as much as possible. This upcoming year won’t be as leisurely so we figured strike while the iron is hot

I told somebody to do that before and they looked at me like I was crazy and asked don’t they had teeth. I tried 😂. I’m ready for a report where the wife hooks a red drum mid 20” or bigger. She will love that fight. Hope you catch one too 😂

Thanks man that shoal is so interesting. Sometimes all the bites will be on one side. Sometimes they’ll be on both(like today). Once the weather cools off the rockfish should start piling up in there. I gotta get my buddy out there with the boat where it drops off deep. Either way it’s a good time and if there’s 2 other people fishing there that’s a busy day

A bit slower today, still got another 6 man limit of blues. Switched over to throwing metal and dang that was fun. Beautiful day on the island. My sister got to reel a couple in as well

I went trout fishing for the first time in months on Friday. Water was stupid high, over the top of many docks and almost floating boats on the lifts. Crazy stuff. Nary a bite after 2 hours of fishing. On the trailer early and eating a shrimp plate by 6:30 so all was not lost. Went Sunday afternoon for another go at them farther east to try and get away from that high water, but it was still high. Caught a bunch of dinks, but did manage this nice 22" fish to end the day. Released her, released a Coors Light, and headed to the ramp. :ROFLMAO: Pretty good afternoon on the water.
