Little man ran down to the pier after homework and caught a nice speckled trout. Shrimp on a popping cork.

ETA before anyone makes a comment on my high dollar cleaning table…I pulled that out of the dumpster; we’re still remodeling. I’m sitting at a plastic folding table downstairs sending this.
Heck I was gonna say “nice table…bet it was the right price too.” Waste not, want not. One contractor’s trash is another hobo’s treasure

Checked some spots Saturday afternoon that I done extremely well in the spring on trout but only 2-3 shorts there yesterday. Water was 75-76 yesterday so still a little early. Picked flounder rod up and after culling a few , took one 20.5 inches home for a buddy that’s loves flat fish. Headed to my typical summer time spot this morning so hopefully it’s better than yesterday on the trout

Yesterday morning was beautiful on the Croatan Sound. Went out with our light trout rods for specs. Came home with a 19" and 21" flounder, and had some great battles with slot reds. Caught a few decent trout too...

Went for a couple hours this morning. Was headed back home by 10. Caught 6-7 trout all on top water and probably missed the same amount . Nothing huge , biggest probably 20 inches or so. Couldn’t get to the spot I’ve been doing better at as far as quality trout and drum because of the weather .

Before heading home , I pulled up to a point I’ve done good with the flounder on before . One cast with the flounder rod and caught one 24 incher. Rather be lucky than good any day so I headed to the ramp .

Caught a few odds and ends last week.
Some fish were to our liking, plenty of lizard fish.

The net boats were working 75 - 100 yards out from the breakers along atlantic beach. We watched them bring in a set, an was able to see the fish in the nets flashing in the morning sun.

Caught my first Red Drum and a ton of Blues in Ocracoke last weekend. Great times. Glad the storms didn’t become an issue

Trout and whiting were stacked in the surf late evenings. Good bait running the beaches all week. Got sporty yesterday but hooked up on an upper slot drum at dusk to take back home for tonight’s supper. Pulling out here in a bit before the winds and the drenching… Ft. Fisher.

Kinda of a slow day at Emerald Isle on the beach today. Blue fish, short illegal flounder, couple mullet and enough pin fish to choke a Clydesdale. Highlight of my day was a net of jumping mullet to cut up for bait.

Had plans to fish Friday afternoon......that plan changed due to a flat tire on my truck. Spent Friday afternoon taking care of the tire, and then getting prepared to fish Saturday.

With Saturday morning's forecast of 15-20 MPH NE winds, I opted to sleep in, drink coffee, and take it easy. Didn't start fishing in a protected creek until a little after 11:00 where I did much of nothing for 2.5 hours. Around 2:00 the wind had fallen out to maybe 10-15 as forecasted, so I made a 5 mile run to another area closer to the Sound where I have had lots of luck in past Octobers. The difference in the water color/clarity was night and day at this spot compared to where I had come from....the perfect green and clear.

I set up a drift into a point that I like, and once I got casting distance from said point, I put down the power poles. First cast, 18" trout....second cast, 17" trout......third, a missed bite.....fourth, a 25" drum. This went on for 3 hours with 75% of the fish caught on topwater before I finally left them biting to head home. I honestly lost count of slot drum and 16-23" trout caught. If I had to guess, I'd say I probably caught around 10 slot drum, and 35-40 trout. Helluva afternoon for a 2-3 man crew, but for a solo trip I believe it may have been the most epic bite I've ever seen from a respectable class of fish.

Also had the pleasure of watching a 45-50" drum eat an 18" trout I had hooked on a topwater plug. Halfway back to the boat the trout launched 3' out of the water twice. After the 2nd jump, the big drum annihilated the trout. Apparently a hook or 2 from the plug wound up in the drum. Fought the fish for probably 10-12 minutes on a M/L 6-'6" rod, 2500 reel w/ 10# braid and 20# leader. Got the fish to probably 20' from the boat, and broke the leader. I had put way too much drag on that light tackle.....I fouled up. Nevertheless, an awesome sight to see and an adrenaline filled 10-12 mins.

I love Fall inshore fishing!!!!

My son and I snuck out for a Sunday afternoon trip. It was pretty good fishing. But any day fishing with my son is a good day. :)
