Red-Bellied Woodpecker

I can't say I've ever seen a red headed woodpecker up in this area of NC. Used to see the red cockaded woodpecker a lot near our Alabama lease. They had those birds well protected as far as their nests are concerned. Trees were marked with wide white paint and just above the paint was a metal collar about 2 feet wide.
Warning signs were posted nearby not to mess with those creatures.
Not much red at all on them if I remember. They look like a skinny , longer downy woodpecker.

I have not seen a red headed wood pecker in 25 years here. The red bellied are plentiful and daily visitors to my bird feeding for sunflower seeds. I haven't seen a flicker in a decade, I'm not sure what is going on with them.

I saw several Northern Flicker browsing a field at Nicholson Creek game land in January. I had never seen them before and was mesmerized by their greenish gold wings. (Photo not my own)

Had you been over in Pamlico Co near my place about two/three years ago, you could have seen literally hundreds of flickers near my place. I even made a comment to my hunting party what was up with that. As I recall was pretty much an all season event.
