ran it by the wife that I wanted to get an ATV (4 wheeler). She knows I've always wanted one, and to my surprise she said "sure, go ahead. I'm amazed you've never had one".

After church yesterday she saw me looking at them online and commented "and the search begins, hahahaha". She knows how much time and research I put into buying anything like cars/mowers/trucks/etc.

After looking at the prices of them I might as well go find a run down jeep and just leave the top off year round.

Having a situation with a tree stand set up on a neighboring property here had me flagging the property line today going by the old hash marks on the trees from over the years. Some were made 7-8 years ago and some are older than I am so it took some careful examination to find enough to strike a straight line. Using a compass actually helped me find some that I have never seen before today they were so faint I never noticed them before. The third picture is me standing behind a tree that is dead center of the property line with the stand I found on the neighbor's side. I was wrong originally about the distance from the boundary at first thinking it was 30 yards away from me. It's really 18 yards from the line20240923_151045.jpg20240923_145605.jpg20240923_145213.jpg

Some more pics from today in some places I seldom go this time of year to keep the deer happy. Found an old stand I put up in the early 90s made from 1/8 inch steel in a black gum I believe. I packed light as possible but still had to take a break and get the weight off my hips climbing up and down a steep hollow. Last picture of an extra shaggy shag bark hickory 20240923_161005.jpg20240923_162241.jpg20240923_175639.jpg

Car salesmen were not interested in making money yesterday. Looked at vehicles at four different dealers. Nobody even popped out to see if we were interested. I really wasn't. Just more curious what they are selling for. Now, I really don't want a new truck. 😮

Go to Hendrick Toyota in Apex if you want some attention. I went there yesterday to get parts and had to beat the sales people off of me. So annoying

My Worksharp Ken Onion edition broke while sharpening my deer processor knives this afternoon. I'm not sure I want to replace it. Looks like I'll need to switch over to my whetstones.

Anyone else ever drive a work truck, or your hunt truck and hit the highway, listen to a few songs, zone out, check the mirrors, notice NO close traffic behind you, and suddenly wonder "Did I strap that stuff or those ladders down?!?!?".

That is about a daily occurrence for me.

I left a job one late afternoon when I was still working for an employer with a trailer hauling a big 4x9 ft. pallet that the package unit I Installed came on back to the shop. The route was hwy 29 south Concord, 601 hwy just a little past afternoon rush hour traffic and discovered the pallet was missing. That was a long scary drive back tracking to where it flew off the trailer. I am convinced I have guardian angels watching over me 24/7. Every load I haul that day never fails to make me strap everything down to the point the vehicle could rollover and it still stays put

I have driven someone else's vehicle before and the ride was so smooth I didn't realize I was 20 over....

In TN I did some side work helping a guy fix some pontoon boats. His crew was definitely worthy of being hobo bridge dwellers in every sense of the term. I hopped in the truck with the Hobo Numero Uno to take a boat to the lake for a test drive. It’s interesting going over a bridge on the interstate and looking out the passenger window and seeing the boat and trailer pass you on the downhill side 😎

Many, many years ago when I was young, and nobody could tell me anything I didn't already know.........I bought a whole bundle of landscape timbers from lowes. They were nice enough to load them in the bed of my truck with a forklift. I still have the dents in the tailgate to prove it. Now you can't see the dents for the bedliner, the bedliner plastic popped right back out. So at the time, I decided to take my newly squatted truck (by weight) home with my purchase. The lowes employee said you might need a strap or two. I was like, hell no, as heavy at that load is it won't go anywhere. Fast forward 15 minutes I'm sitting at a red light. Light turns green, I hit the gas and my truck was no longer squatted. The whole pallet of timbers was on the pavement. Luckily the driver of the brand new Camry behind me had more sense than me and didn't hit the go pedal.

I had my first run in with fireants today, normally I can spot the mound and walk around it but today I was measuring a sign and the grass around it had grown over it and I didn't see it.
I stepped right on it and next thing I know my feet are starting to itch and then they felt like they were burning.
I ran back to some pavement and started stomping and I could see the ants all over my shoes.
I kick shoes and socks off and felt them on my legs, started slapping my legs and started to drop my pants but figured an old man outside of a store with his pants down would get a ride downtown.
Finally got em all and my feet and legs stopped burning after about 30 minutes.
I know why they're called fireants now.

I would really like to try one. May have to try the brine and marinate. Don't have any duck fat. Oh well.

"The chicken is brined in a salt bath, marinated in buttermilk curry for five days, then double-fried, splashed in spiced duck fat and served with two types of house-made mayonnaise."
