Quicksand in NC!?

I was out this morning, doing a little scouting after I called it a day and came across this sign. Anyone else ever see a sign like this or dealt with quicksand in NC?

IDK but quicksand is one of those things from the 70s you just don't hear about much these days.

For some reason I always think about Marlin Perkins talking about a giant Anaconda while his sidekick Jim is slowly sinking in quicksand while he wrestles with the snake.
As a kid growing up in the 60-70’s I thought there’d be way more quick sand out in the world then there actually is….

Knew of several small "pitts" around and east of Havelock in the swamps of Craven Co. When I was younger. Actually had one in our back yard that took several years of dumping bricks, broken cement blocks, and other solid debris to fill it up. You could make a pile in the evening and by morning it would be gone.

Yes, many years ago near Wilmington, we were walking thru some woods trying to get an unobstructed look at the Battleship. This is when it was in place but not yet open for touring. Some members of our party were immobolized and had to be pulled out by others with the help of belts.

There was a sign on the right as you would be getting on the Southport ferry to fort fisher. I didn’t see it this summer so not sure what’s going on there.
Was walking the point at holden Beach yesterday at low tide and hit some soft sand and instantly went knee deep. If I had had shoes on I'd have left them in the sand.

RIGHT!? I literally watched videos on how to escape it. Same with catching on fire. Stop drop and roll was hit pretty hard...... Been a firefighter for 18 years, haven't used it yet.

Sometimes the Stop Drop and Roll is not the best reaction....
Once I had to douse a brother firefighter when he did just that after getting caught in a flashover......in a cotton mill. He just turned into a ball of flame rolling around in the fluff on the floor.

Did I ever explain to you the difference between a Yankee and a damn Yankee ?
Hahah to be perfectly honest and accurate, no. Once you and I became friends, difference in geographical origins never seemed to be relevant. Except for me being very interested with your family roots in your area. That’s cool stuff. I don’t think my family on either side had that consistency when coming to America.

I have gotten stuck in something akin to quick sand before in Duplin county. I had to get pulled out and my hip boots stayed in the muck.
I was wondering why there was a pair of hip waders in the mud on the way to my duck hunting spot.

The Yankee thing was a joke. If not for those fine folks I would be unemployed. I haven't been trapped in quicksand in about 40 years but it used to be a major hazard here , or so I was told
Mannnn that’s why I said I didn’t really care. That’s what made it funny…I know that :donk:donk:donk:donk don’t matter to you. Bet your old timer buddy would be the one with some quicksand tales from green swamp

You should have been at the oyster roast. Think I just made everyone uncomfortable. But I do have an African American coming bear hunting
