Prairie Doggin’

Been bouncing the idea of a “goin west” trip with my son(17) for some dog shooting. Have a couple contacts, my main question is this. Most things I can find say prime time is May, June July. We were looking at April to go over Spring Break but that doesn’t look to promising. For anyone that has been has this been your observation? Would there be much use in going early April? From research they are in burrows then with new litter. Any info appreciated.

Thanks.

You are liable to get snowed on in April and maybe even in May. Big difference in the weather in the midwest versus here in the spring.

I shot in mid oct one year. It was a blast.

I know this doesn’t help you but it’s fun to do

I used to live in Denver and went east to public land to shoot PD's. Mid May until early July was prime time and a 4-500 round afternoon wasn't all that rare. Use a rimfire if you can, it's just as effective if you can get the range to 100 yards or less.
My 22-250 is currently wearing it's 5th barrel and they aren't as cheap as they used to be.....
