Saw many of them Timbers on Pungo Refuge back in the 90's but of course we NEVER killed them because it was against the law🙄
Don't think they become "protected" to '01 or '02. I remember folks being pissed about it.

We always see some absolute stud timber rattlers over there in october once it cools off. Saw one that the mower got that was as big around as a 2 liter soda bottle. dang thing had a head half again as big as your fist.

I am not one bit scared of snakes but I don’t like them things. They are dog killers, if you don’t have the right stuff with you the dog 99% of the time is dead. And bitten in the wrong place no matter what you have they are in dire jeopardy.

Ole Velvet Tail is usually pretty docile, you gotta mess with him first before he gets riled up enough to strike....but he can get riled in a flat out instant...

Had this one in residential area(mile from homes) the other day! Not aggressive at all and we scooted him off road and on his way! Cool weather has them moving!
