Playing in the mud

Went to VA today and filled feeders (500# corn/500# soybeans) ... it was supposed to turn off sunny and highs in 60s at lunch BUT it stayed cloudy and misty rain all day.

Made blowing leaves off the food plots slow go BUT we did get 7 of the 8 plots done and frost seeded with 28# Ladino clover.

I’ve never seen so much deer and turkey turds in the food plots! They are mowing it down... good to see.

Few pics ... it was a fun day to finally be able to get out the house and in the woods.

good looking setup... I have question as I have a couple of feeding troughs on my land similar to yours. Do you feed all year or just until the trees leave back out? How long will the 500lbs last? On my land from Sept thru March I will fill up the trough 3x...

We have 4 trough feeders (3 hold 200# each, 1 holds 400#)... so we feed 1000# at a time typically.

This is the 3rd time since Jan 1st. Plan to do it again in 2 weeks and then take a break during turkey season for legal purposes.

They usually eat 1000# this time of year in 2-3 weeks . After spring green-up, summer feedings are hard to judge because the bears get on them pretty hard although the deer use them also.

Being that VA has a ban on feeding/baiting except Jan - Sept 1st we have basically 8 months a year to supplement feed, therefore the big need for food plots.

We will feed 8000-10,000# during that time.
