This is why we don't kill every snake we see.

We were in the garden this morning when I noticed this strapping big fellow at the base of a tree digesting his most recent meal, most likely a clutch of baby bunnies or a squirrel, maybe a rat. As long as they stay out of my birdhouses, they're welcome on our property.

No, in this heat they eat considerably more often than that. I have a big one in/around my barn that is easily recognized by a scar he earned by a run in with my bush hog a few years back. I saw him/her with a BIG frog at my pond earlier in the year and just a few days later he was trying his best to get up a piece of pipe one of my bluebird boxes was on. I watched for quite a time to make sure he/she couldn't get up there before I went on but it sure tried.
