Ohaus 10-10 Powder Scale

Old Mossy Horns
I don’t know anything about reloading. I picked up some reloading equipment from my late brother a few years ago. One thing I just remembered I received was a powder scale. It’s an Ohaus 10-10 beam scale from some time in the 1970s. I looked it up and they’re well regarded. I thought I would put it to use by weighing out some Blackhorn 209 loads for my muzzleloader.

Just in case you don’t know, 100gr of your powder by volume doesn’t weight 100gr , so be careful.

I know. The conversion is supposed to be 0.7 by weight to 1.0 by volume. I shoot 110 gr. by volume so that converts to 77 gr. by weight. But I have found that people are finding different lots of Blackhorn 209 have different densities. I'm going to measure out 10 loads by volume to see what the average weight is. If I get a little my ambitious, I'll do the same with the second canister of Blackhorn I have.

The original OHaus and Redding balance scales are slow for throughput but scary sensitive and accurate. I use mine to check the electronic scales as part of the process control.
