I’ll start the official thread here. We have done this get together for the past couple of years (I’ve never been able to make it but I’m going to this year by golly).

Place- Pisgah NF Steele Creek area. Directions will be posted below

Dates- Oct 6-8th. This is fluid. You can come any day. You can show up before that date (it’s public land). You can camp or just come and hang out for a few hours. Whatever you want.

There’s plenty of land to hunt. There is plenty of water to fish. Or you can just sit around and do nothing.

(Copied from @Ol Copper ) Same directions:
-Hwy 181 North out of Morganton proper for approx. 10 miles.
-Pass Horseshoe Bend and Steele Creek parks on your left.
-Hwy 181 starts noticeably climbing up the mountain
-Pass Pisgah NF sign on your right
-Start looking on the right hand side of hwy for mileage marker signs
-At approx mile 16 road goes back to 2-lane
-Turn left onto USFS Road#228 approx. 100 yds before MM#17. Turn off is in a curve that bends to your right
-You can actually see the 17 sign as you are turning left onto the FS road. If you pass MM17 and see Craig Creek Rd on your right you went too far
-There is a standard FS gate there that is open and there is a silver power sub-base sitting there with orange flagging all over it
-Go out that gravel road, cross a low water concrete ford, and keep on going. We are camping at the very end of the road, if you end up in Steels Creek you went too far 😀
Multiple camping sights all the way out that road, but we are at the very end. Make no turns, to the very end.

Bring eats, drinks and camping supplies. Lots of great cooking going on. Bring a chair to sit by the fire if you want. Any firewood that can be brought is always appreciated.

No cell signal at camp. Last good spot is up near blacktop

25 min. to ice and limited sundrys

Come one, come all, promise you wont be disappointed.

I'll see about showing up Friday afternoon if that's alright. I don't have a gun cause APPARENTLY they aren't allowed on campus, but I'll do the next best thing and fish. I've never been in a hunt camp so this is exciting.

I'll be up Thursday till Sun afternoon unless something changes. I'll bring the firewood probably a Blackstone. May be last one of these if they change ML dates.

I was planning to hunt mzl in SC but I may come for an afternoon hunt, camp hunt the morning and come home. Ive been to camp and fished but as far as hunting goes, itll be an armed nature hike for me. Im really only coming for the good stuff that @Ol Copper has, food and good company. I have some backstrap we can cook up.

Serious question, has there ever been a deer killed at this hunt in the past?

@Helium said he wanted to come but feels bad for you mtn hunters and doesnt wanna kill all yalls deer. He said its like shooting fish in a barrel up there. Thats why he moved to the flat land to chase these ridiculously smart racist urban deer. At least thats the story he told me.

3 killed last year plus a miss or two. Which is saying a lot considering most us just sit around BSing. Tell helium come try one these Pisgah deer out then he might change his mind LOL kidding of course. I'm always honest its not even close to best hunting around deer density is low but there are deer around. its as much of a good time and meeting other members burning some wood as anything. Delayed harvest waters will be open by way.

Y'all got me chomping at the bit. I really hope I can make it. This place is only about an 1 1/2hour drive for me. I was going to camp and hunt with a crossbow that weekend but much rather hunt with a front stuffer.

Weather dependent we will be there (I am made of sugar and don't want to melt in the rain) Friday Oct. 6 evening - Sunday October 8 evening. I will need a note to give to my pastor for skipping Church to hunt on a Sunday LOL
