I have none to describe what I witnessed today. @brownisdown (Dustin) is someone I’ve spoke with regularly about all things ducks and dogs, but never met in person - until today when he and crew rolled into our little disaster area with a tractor/trailer packed full of much needed supplies along with about 300 gallons of gas. A few other friends of mine linked up with him on the way and brought a couple more pickups slam full, along with my older brother.
We set up an impromptu drop off/pick up point at a local church, put it on Facebook and got on the air of the local am station to out the word out.
People were lined up before we even got unloaded and they kept coming. We were able to make two separate deliveries into the Reems Creek/Beech Community along with distributing much needed supplies to likely a couple hundreds people.
We were able to provide free gas to people where they’ve been waiting in lines for hours to get some. Free. Due to recent looting and a couple shootings at gas stations, we had planned for the worst with most of us having concealed weapons plus at least 4 AR rifles in vehicles and ready, just in case - none were needed. Nearly every car had folks with tears streaming. Our community was so thankful and we have loaded pallets of water on two trailers to take to Swannanoa tomorrow, another hard hit area. We literally had no issues or people getting out of hand - just grateful.
Dustin made all this possible and I owe a debt that can’t be repaid. Before he left, he pushed a wad of cash in my hand from some of the members here - we will put it to good use for our community.
We have a long road ahead, but y’all have made it so much easier. The picture doesn’t even show half of what was dropped. All of our crew were also able to replenish their fuel tanks so we can continue to help out. I’m in awe of what I saw and experienced today.
Many, many thanks and my deepest gratitude.
