Next Year’s Upgrade

Battery? Warranty?

The ultimate would be the vectronix or Swarovski, but I doubt you need that much. I’m not much use on the under 500yd rangefinders.
Battery? I carry a spare

Warranty? I mean if it’s higher tier and it craps the bed I wanna be taken care of.

I see the need to know where 500 yds is down the road. But I’d be happy today knowing when I click a button I get an accurate reading to 300, regardless of vegetation, soil, or light. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Y’all school me on rangefinders. Mostly a bow hunter so it’s normally not an issue. Always used leupold rangefinders up until this last one. It’s a Vortex 1800. Never had a problem up until Saturday. Ive toyed with it on decent yardages and noticed it was hit or miss. Saturday took the cake and I coulda thrown it outta the tree. One particular section it would NOT range. Red dirt, Broome straw, pine tree, tree tops, it didn’t matter. But swing 90 to 180 degrees and it would do fine.

So what’s my upgrade?
Send it back and they’ll replace it. They will all do what you’re talking about. Vortex will fix it forever when most other companies won’t on electronics. If the glass in the fury AB would’ve been what I was looking for, I would’ve bought them. I do have a rx2800 that works well, but any better than my buddies ranger 4500. Leica invented the laser range finder…. Lots of folks use them. Having switched to ranging binos, I won’t be going back to a stand alone unit.

You could try a Leica. That’s what I replaced an underperforming Leupold with 4 years ago and it has worked very well so far.

Battery and warranty in reference to the vortex you haven’t had issues with until the other day

Leica used to be the gold standard in long range so I’m confident they will do anything needing to be done under 800

It’s never ranged long distances accurately or precisely for my liking. Just always figured I needed something better. However, normally I have a bow in the tree so during those times I’m just messing around. Saturday took the cake. It would range 400 to a hardwood draw. Out to a ridge line at 300. However, this one section of clear cut which looked just like the other 100 acres, it would not range. I could get 100 and 300 in the same line, but say 200-275 it would not register.

Leica would be my suggestion based on how they performed when we used to range with them before getting a pair of terrapins. I’ve made a lot of first round hits out to 1k with leicas.

Ouch. $3k on the Swaros. I wasn’t expecting that large a jump. Is there a gain in going from $350 Diamondbacks to something in the 1000-1500 range, or is it so marginal go big?
I mean I knew Swaros were expensive, I just wasn’t looking for a $3k upgrade. Maybe I’ll try some and get talked into it. I spend days in my Diamondback 10x42s, so in upgrade does seem justifiable.
If you look around on places like rokslide you can find a pair of swaro 10x42 Slc in the $1200 range. That’s probably your most affordable option to get alpha glass.

I bought a Blue Tees rangefinder for golf and have been taking it to the stand with me. Its good out to 6/700 yards. I have an older Bushnell ranger finder i used to use and the Blue Tees is much more accurate and easier to use.

They have great products and both Doug and Joel are great to work with. They didn’t have the pair I wanted so Doug called the Leica rep. She had a pair. Doug made arrangements to drop ship. Got them in two days.

dealt with those guys for a long time and they are definitely top notch as far as price and customer services goes. Just wish they could get their web designers to fix it where you could see the in stock items only. I know it is a first world problem, but man it would make it easier to find something that would work without having to scroll through page after page of out of stock items.
