I had one pop out a knoll 4ft above me one morning,,,scared the :donk:donk:donk:donk out of me as my eyes were closed and he barked at me.he checked me out 4 times and got in reach of me,,was entertaining after I changed my underwear

I had a polecat do that once, from the cutover.

I tossed a twig to his left, and when he turned to look, I hauled ass, sans gun, pack, everything.

here is one of my hunting buddies from a few years ago
That would be an Easter Phoebe. They are very tame little wild birds and like to hang out within feet of you, especially if you are digging and stirring up bugs, spiders and such. One landed on the hat of a city worker the other day while he was digging up my water meter box.

I hunt a lot of cutover, often from the ground. I got a list of birds that have landed on me over the years.

Warblers are nice. Wrens, titmice, and chickadees are just plain obnoxious.
